Memorial Day: Blood of heroes never dies

I lost my original post as a result of having trouble with the computer so better late than never.

Hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day.

Thank you to all that have given the ultimate sacrifice and for those that are currently serving in the military.  God bless you all! You are our true heroes !

I was wondering why all the red baseball hats then Vin explained it that all MLB teams were wearing.  Then he recited a poem  written by Moina Michael titled “We Shall Keep the Faith.” that was in reply to the poem “Flanders Fields.”  We love you Vin Scully!

The second of three stanzas of this poem reads:

We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders Fields.
I wonder how you all feel about the red hats. They will wear them again on 7/4 & 9/11.  Dodgers will be in San Diego for 7/4 & in SF for 9/11.   No way would I wear a red hat,   people might think that I am an …Angel fan.  Perish that thought.   I would have preferred a patch or a red white and blue logo.

Two more days before I fly to Chicago for my first trip to Wrigley!!

Update on Manny:  He is working out at Dodger Stadium while the team is away.

I think it was a beautiful tribute to wear the red/patriotic hats and I loved how all the games paused at 3pm local time to take part in the National Moment of Remebrance. Our country coming together is a good thing.

I like the red hats even though they don’t look right on teams that normally don’t wear red. I bought mine earlier in the week, and wore it proudly yesterday. The proceeds from the sale of the caps go to a great cause, which gave me another reason to buy another Orioles hat. Have a great time at Wrigley! Its always been a dream of mine to attend a game at Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. Maybe one day I’ll get there too!

The red was nice but did look strange. I tend to think more about the Cardinals than the Angels when it comes to red caps. The Dodgers were playing in SF at some point last year I believe when both teams were wearing dark blue hats with the red white and blue logos. The Giants announcers were complaining as if the Giants were having to wear Dodgers colors. I’d bring back the blue just to see the Giants squirm…

  4. digthedodgers

Congrats on your blog being honored!!! Well deserved. We’re just one week from our visit to Chavez Ravine. I’ll remind you again Friday or Saturday.
    Take care and Go Dodgers!!!

I would have preferred to just change the logo to that color or the whole hat red/white and blue. I stay away from red. If those people on the train would see me wearing red, they would tease me to death. I loved the pausing at 3:p.m. Vin warn us with plenty of time to do that.
I would rather donate the money and they can keep the hat. I’ve been to Fenway and that was a great experience. I am so looking forward to Chicago!
Oh, the abuse I would take on train, especially from those that transfer from the Orange County train to the Ventura train would be too much if I ever wear a red baseball hat. With the LA logo it would look like an Angel hat now that they call them themselves Los Angeles Angles.
    Thank you Digs!
Yes please, remind me. I will miss the game on Sunday 6/7 as I fly to New Hampshire that morning.

I liked the sentiment behind the red hats but they just looked plain weird on teams that wear blue. Stars and stripes or some other symbol would have worked, but red? I kept blinking to make sure I wasn’t watching the Phillies, since the Yanks had just played them for three games. Have fun at Wrigley!

The RED cap was a bit confusing. When I had first change the channel to see my boys play. I thought I had the wrong Channel. I eventually did figured it out. American flag patch on the uniform would of been better!

  8. thinkingblue

EMMA have fun in Chicago. It is my favorite place to visit. Go to Harry Carries to eat. I love his Italian cuisine restaurant next to the River. You Can’t miss the big glasses!

  9. crzblue2

It was cool for Memorial Day but having to wear them also for the the 4th of July and 9/11. Good thing we do not play a team that wears red on those days. We play you guys on the 4th. Most likely I will be in SD!
Stars & Stipe on the logo would have been very nice! Thanks! Chicago should be lots of fun.
    Hey Rose!
I thought the same thing that I had the wrong channel! American Flag patch would have worked

We played the Brewers yesterday and it took me a while to figure out why they were wearing red hats. I like the idea of what it stands for but it was weird seeing other teams with red on. Of course being a Cardinal fan I love red and have a whole closet full of it but I can see were it would be hard wearing red if it wasn’t part of your teams colors.

  11. rrrt

Yeah, I found the red confusing too. I’d seen the caps ahead of time on the Phillies website, but since they wear red anyway, I thought the only difference was the logo. But then in yesterday’s game against the Marlins, they showed the Marlins pitcher and I wondered why his cap was red. Then I realized all the teams wore red caps.
Enjoy Wrigley Field! Where are your seats for the game(s)? We have been there twice (4 games altogether) and sat in a variety of locations. The only one I didn’t care for was in the lower grandstand behind home plate – it is very tight in there with limited air flow, and there are some of those annoying support beams blocking parts of the view. Hope you see a great game!

    He Jan,
I can imiagine your closet full of red gear. Mine is blue everywhere and slowly I’ve been getting rid of red clothes.
My friend was in charge of getting the tickets and I of booking hotel. she got one set between home plate and 1st and the other set between 1st and RF. on the field. I talked to her Sunday and she said she is working on the Satuday and not to worry that she will get them. One one of the sets, the guy included parking but we do not need it.

  13. crzblue2

Thanks for the restaurant suggestion! I usually try to go on diet prior to a trip but it was hard with two all you can eat games I attended on the weekend. The first one was in those baseline seats that include the field level restaurant and the second one was the beach BBQ on Sunday. I enjoyed both of them too much 🙂

  14. irishsoxkid19

It was a great tribute to wear those hats. They should do the same for the uniforms. Have fun at Wrigley!! Hope the Dodgers win!!! By the way, how’s Manny? Sorry, had to say that. Hope you had a great memorial day!!

  15. crzblue2

Manny is working at Dodger Stadium while the team is away. About the hats, I just wish it would have been a red patch instead or a star & stripes. No red or orange hats for me. Cubs have lost 8 in row! Ouch. I hope my Dodgers win in Chicago. Thanks! My Memorial day was great. I hope your was too. I love the moment of silence yesterday at 3:p.m.

  16. cubsjunkie2

I am COMPLETELY jealous you’ll be at the Cubs games. I was offered tix for the thursday game but my money source (aka my dad since I don’t get a pay check until monday) had to turn them down. Sad day.

  17. crazy19canuck

The red hast left my hubby thinking all these guys were defecting to the Angels. He was making up new lineups! It was an awesome thing for the team to do! Have fun in Chicago!

  18. crzblue2
