Randy Wolf gets a win! Charlie Haeger makes Dodger Debut

First of all, congratulations to Randy Wolf for a fantastic win today!  He stopped the 3 game losing streak!

Wolf  went 7/2 innings, had 10 strikeouts, no walks, at one point he retired  20 in a row.  He gave up 3 runs in the 8th when he started to run out gas.    He had three hits including a two run homer.  He tied career highs of three RBIs!

Way to go Lobo!

The Cardinals are in town.   The Dodgers will see Chris Carpenter 12-3 with a 2.27 ERA against

knuckleballer Charles Haeger who is making his Dodger debut.   I think Brad Ausmus will catch him as he bought a big catcher’s mitt once he heard Haeger was coming.

I picture this when Haeger was told at Triple-A that he was being called to the Majors:

Isotopes Manager:   Charlie, I got good news and bad news.

Charlie:  Give me the good news first skipper

Istopes Manager:   the good news:  You are going to L.A. to make your Dodger debut.

The bad News:   you are facing the Cardinals and going against Carpenter.

 Good luck Haeger!

I am hoping something similar to when Edwin Jackson made his Dodger debut against Randy Johnson and Edwin won!   I was at the game in Arizona.   I will be at Dodger Stadium tomorrow and thru all the homestand.

I was thinking of knuckleballers that played for the Dodgers that I’ve seen them pitch.  Let’s see…e Tom Candiotti and Charlie HoughCandiotti is currently a TV-Radio analyst for the  Diamondbacks and Charlie Hough is the pitching coach of the Dodgers for the Single-A Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino.   I got to talk to Charlie Hough last year after a game.   I told him I had seen him pitch.   He said “you must have been a baby.”  LOL.  Sweet of him to say that.

Hey Thanks Ted! I am going there to check it out! I also want to ask you about a player you had in the minor league named Mariano Gomez.

  2. crzblue2

OMG Mattpeas! They are even tougher against the Dodgers and we are facing Carpenter against Haeger making his debut. Either way I very excited to watch the new pitcher. Thank! we will need all the luck!

emma, Mariano Gomez spent seven long years in the indians minor league system and had some very shaky years. They released him and now he is on the Braves. he was invited to their spring training earlier in the year. Don’t worry I can answer any question. 🙂

WOW Ted! You are great! Do you play fantasy baseball? This is the first year since I started playing that I do not play. We did not have enough players to make it a league and I feel a little out of sinc. Thanks!!

    TC,
So does Astrubal have a nickname? Good luck with school this year!
    .
    Ted,
haha So Grady’s Guys.. I take it you were part of the group you talked about in your blog. Yes, next year, God willing I’ll get back to playing fantasy baseball so let me know. I have come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

    EMMA
Tonights game should be very interesting. Having a new pitcher is a bit scary but I wish him well and hope he can earn his first win. WOLF was wonderful yesterday. Hopefully he continues doing a great job.

    Have fun at tonights game!

    Ted,
If I am playing I like doing my homework as I am sure you do very well. I’d be afraid to play against you.
    .
    Msrussy,
I am so exicted for tonight’s game. It has been a while since we had a knuckleballer. You never know what you get but that is part of the charm. :::fingers crossed:::: We go to get even with the birds ! lol. Hay que desplumarlos”. lol.
    .
I am going to see what my Cardinal friends are saying.

Hey Ted, Just like the Dodgers take me on a rollercoaster. I was so down on them on Saturday with was the worst loss of th year to highs on Sunday with the great performance of Randy Wolf. Randy is a local boy that went to Pepperdine and so is the pitcher that beat us the night before.

  9. crzblue2

    Ted,
I will! I love being there while the pitcher warms up in the bullpen and when he comes out with all the applauses from the fans and when the Bullpen guys make their way to the bully to the applauses.

    Jane,
Yeah that is a name from the past! and yes Jane, very flattering what he said. 🙂

    Emma,

We have 2 things going for us tonight.

-Our hitters have studied the tape from 2 weeks ago, and Donny will have them making adjustments against Carp

    – The Cardinals haven’t seen Charlie Haeger, or any knuckleballer yet this season.

    Tonight, vengence is ours!

    Go Blue !

Thanks for the postive post BCF! Haeger pitched great. If only the hitter would have given a little more support. Why oh why did Andre and Manny go after the first pitch on those popups. Blake gave it a ride but the ball was too high. We will get them tomorrow!!
    .
haha Jane! I read minds. My answer came out before your question.

    Emma,
I hope you had alot of fun at the game. I saw they lost though. :/ Sorry… Well the Indians have only lost once in my life while I have been in attendance and that was this year against the Pirates, so I think that they should get the win. 🙂

    Ted,
I had loads of fun. That first day of a homestand, seeing all the Boys of Summer, the friends that share the same passion for the game as you do, the people that work at the stadium that you see everyday is a lot of fun.
    .
Haeger pitched great . Just a couple of pitches that he sure would like back. I am ready to do it again tonight! I hope Billz got his A stuff back!

Haha, good luck with tonights’ game as well. I will be seeing the Tribe take on the Halos and I am feeling confident that the Indians are gonna win. 🙂 Well, Fausto Carmona has pitched great in his last 2 outings even though he went (0-1) in them. His ERA was somewhere around 2 combined in both outings. Let’s see if he can keep the sinker down and if he can control his pitches. 🙂 Make sure you stop by the blog, I have a new picture on it for the About me section.

The knuckleball is the coolest pitch in baseball. Not many guys throw it but the guys who do are always fun to watch. Tim Wakefield doesn’t really throw much else but it would be nice to see someone who throws the knuckle, and then maybe a curve and changeup and a fastball too. That would be great.

    Ted,
Big Mojos that Carmona can keep that sinker down and can control his pitches. We don’t want any of that “Wild Thing” 🙂
    .
    Thanks Virginia!
I am so glad for Wolf as he has been in so many no-decision. I think he leads the league on that!
    .
    Tc,
You and Ted do a wonderful job. I am learning more about the American League and I am at the stadium and looking at the score and thinking “this person is happy, this other one is not”.
    .
    FB,
Yep, the Cards are a tough team. Very potent with their bat. Pujols is one tough Hombre! Haeger did great but he lost. The Dodger bats have slow down considerably. They need to step it up!!!
    .
    Dillon,
I was having fun watching the nuckleballer He was weaving and dealing. He just made two mistakes but I very excited to have him aboard. Let’s see how he does his second time around.
    .
    All,
I have not had chance to start a new thread wtih getting home late after the game and having a big project at work that I have to redo as now the user now wants the data a different way. I’ll stop by your blogs. Thanks for posting!

Emma: Well, he wasn’t “Bombko” last night, that’s for sure. But even though the Yanks didn’t score off him, it didn’t seem like he was pitching that well. Whatever. Tonight is another game and I am hoping for better results. Thanks for calming me down. Relaaaax. 🙂 -Virginia

    TC,
My friend LTD23 and I were in San Diego and we saw this Dodger fan doing that in a soft way saying it when Manny was coming to bat. It was funny that now we imitate him at the stadium. she looks at me and says ‘Emma: Relaxxxx” You have to do the hands too like you are calming someone.

Randy Wolf was awesome for the Dodgers, he even homered in that game too. This is the final stretch, the Dodgers can clinch this NL West, they just have to be weary of the Giants and Rockies though.

    Ted,
I’ll check it at lunch time. So busy right now that I have not been able to start a new post (thread).
    .
    Mathew,
Randy Wolf came up big for us. The was the best game he has pitched this year. We will need Kuroda healthy to compete and it looks like he will head to the DL before the next road trip. We will see. Thanks!
    .
I am so mad at myself for forgetting my blackberry! How am I going to survive!! crisis, crisis! I work 45 miles away from home so going home is not an option. The good thing is my brother will bring it to the game so I just have to survive at work without it. One thing I cannot do at work is check my personal emails. How did we ever survive before without the internet?

  21. J.C.

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it. I will always have a soft spot for the Dodgers, especially now that Joe Torre is now the Manager of the Dodgers. It would be awesome to see both teams play each other in the World Series. Good luck with the rest of the season.
