Heroes Week. Military Appreciation Week.

Seeing all the fires going on here in Southern California, I have to give a shout to these heroes who expose their lives for our safety.  Here are some pictures from the L.A. Times:

U.S. Forest Service firefighters race to battle the Station fire as it jumps Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest. The blaze spread Thursday as canyon winds whipped flames into dry brush.

Can you imagine the intesity of the heat and having to carry all that gear?

the fires have claimed two firefighters this week.   This from the L.A.Times:

Two firefighters were killed when they drove off the side of a treacherous road in the Mt. Gleason area, south of Acton, around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles County Deputy Fire Chief Mike Bryant. They were later identified as Arnaldo Quinones, 35, of Palmdale and Ted Hall, 47, of San Bernardino County.

“This accident is tragic,” Bryant said, choking up as he spoke Sunday evening. “This is a very difficult time for L.A. County Fire Department and the men and women that serve day in, day out.”

So far the fires have covered 85,000 acres.   Our thoughts and prayers to all the firefighters.

Me too. That is a job I could not do. God bless them all. Yeah, I hope Randy gets his career #100. I will keep my fingers crossed!

They sure do an amazing job. I have not been outside today but I hope there were no Santa Ana winds or it coudl get worst if that is possible.
I am already at the ballpark so why not volunteer. I can’t watch the game but I can glance every once in a while and see how the team is doing.

Emma: Firefighters don’t get enough credit. They put their lives on the line everyday. That takes a special kind of person. And the members of the military, God bless them. I don’t think they are getting enough support.
Also, that pic of the Stadium is gorgeous!

The guys are amazing. The Dodgers had a moment of silence for the fallen firefighters as you could see the fires in the background.
Yes the firefighers, police and military do not get enough credit. Sometimes on the Metrolink train I see young guys and women heading to San Diego all packed to report there. And yes, the picture of the stadium looks very nice. I often like going there on a non-game and sit there, have lunch and look at the gorgeous view.
    Jeff & Al,
Thanks. That is what Vin Scully was saying that suddendly baeball did not seem so important looking in the background how the fires were spreading and some joining of those fires joining into a big one. Rafael Furcal was not in the starting lineup because his family and he had evacuate his home.

It seems like every year the wild fires inch closer and closer to the main city. It’s a shame the firefighters go so unappreciated most of the time. I can speak from experience it is absolutely no fun facing a raging fire. You feel overwhelmed and overmatched. Kudos to you Emma for the recognition. – http://buzblog.mlblogs.com/

Yes, I was commenting that with someone else how every year the wild fires just inch closer and closer to the city. Is it the population increasing or building further into the mountains. Thanks buz! Can you imagine up there in the mountains having to watch for snakes, bees, wild animals that are also trying to get away from the fires and the firefighters having to fight that in addition to fires. They have my most respect and admiration.

Thanks Ginny. I like what the Dodgers are doing honoring one day a week each like the Navy yesterday, the Air force today, the Army tomorrow night and the Marine on Tuesday. And concluding with Friday night being Military Night for all. Today I very nice young man all dressed in his Air Force gear was asking me how to get to where there was an Ice Cream truck. I was there extra early because of the blood drive and he just got there extra early because he was excited about being at the game. I escorted him where he wanted to go.

It’s been a while since I have blogged and figured I would see how your Dodgers blog is going. I was hoping the next time I would comment on your blog. That my team would be close to stealing 1st place from you guys.
