With a combination of away and home games, the Dodgers are playing 20 consecutive games without a day off before the All-Star break.
It started with the Dodgers going to Oakland for three game where they got swept.
Then they headed to Anaheim where they lost two out of three.
After Sunday’s game they took a bus to Ontario to hop on the flight to San Francisco to play three there.
After the three in San Francisco they come home to play a four game series with the Mets starting Thursday.
Come Monday the Reds come to Dodger Stadium to play three. The Fourth of July game on Wednesday starts at 6:10.
After the Fireworks game, is off to the airport to start a four game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
WOW! a tough test ahead for Mattingly and the Dodgers. If they can turn it aorund and do well they can do this:
By then, Matt Kemp should be ready to come back and we can see him doing this:
Our last trip to Arizona included a trip to Las Vegas to see the Dodgers play against the Cubbies. Our first stop was Camelback Ranch to watch the Boys in Blue practice. We saw Loney so we sang to him:
Afterwards we headed to Surprise Stadium
If you can see the score, the Dodgers are losing in the 4th inning 3 to 9. Things were going to get worst than that.
I forget in what inning, but Wilson Betemit (Ex Dodger) came to bat and I got hit with a foul ball. It did not feel as bad as when I got hit a few years back at Dodger Stadium by a Heep Seop Choi foul ball
Next time this is going to be me catching a foul ball like this!
Meanwhile the score now at the top of the 8th Kansas City Royals 19, Dodgers 7.
On the road now to Las Vegas to follow our Dodgers! But first a little detour to Sedona, AZ
We stopped quite a few times to take pictures.
We got to Vegas like 11:30 at night and the following day we scrambled to get tickets as the game was sold out. After checking a few websites, we were able to get two tickets together and a single one. That meant we had to go to two different places to pick them up. The first stop was drive to Sams Town area, the next stop was to drive to the strip by .the Mandalay Bay to pick up the two tickets. Ok, now on our way to Cashman Stadium.
The game was a close one but lots of running blunders by the Dodgers. We got into a little heckling with Cubbie fans. One sitting next to us was asking us “why don’t you root for the Angels?” Which we told him “Why don’t you root for the White Sox?” It was all in good fun.
Vin Scully made the trip to Las Vegas as he was broadcasting his first Spring Training game.
Prior to the game, from the lower section, I yelled “VIN SCULLY! WE LOVE YOU!” I did it three times until the lady sitting next to him saw me and heard me so she told Vin. Vin got up, saluted me from above then he saw my t-shirt and gave me the A OK sign! The lady asked me to turn around so Vin could see the back. Vin again gave the OK sign! It was a great moment!
Dodgers lost to the Cubs by one run. Wtih that, we headed back to LA.
Next stop: Dodger Stadium for the Freeway Series then on to Opening Day March 31st.
Dodgers Sweep: A Balk-Off, A Walk-Off HR and a Walk-Off Single.
Even though the Dodgers swept Arizona, these wins could have gone either way. The Dodger pitching was there and timely hitting along with some help from the D’Backs.
5/31/10: The Balk-Off. Lopez piched well for the D’Backs but the defense let him down when Kelly Johnson committed two errors in one play that scored two runs. Then came the Balk from Vasquez causing the balk-off for the bearded one Casey Blake. Billingsley was lights out after the four homeruns he gave up in the first two innings. Final score: Dodgers 5, D’backs 4.
The guys in the dugout pointing out to the balk.
6/2/10. Ely vs. Haren. A great pitching dual that went 10 innings with Matt Kemp having his first walk-off! Jeff Weaver picked up the win and Gutierrez picked up the loss. Gutierrez is now 0-4. Gutierrez has allowed 10 homeruns in 18 1/3 innings. Final score: Dodgers 1, D’Backs 0.
The fourteen inning stretch!
6/3/10. A business special that started at noon. This one had ex-Dodger Edwin Jackson going against rule-5 Carlos Monasterios. It went 14 innings with rookie Travis Schlichting (I love the name!) pitching 4 scoreless innings and picking up the win! The kid also had his first MLB at bat. Valdez took the loss on a walk-off single by Garret Anderson. Final score: Dodgers 1, D’backs 0.
So the D’Backs have gone 31 innings without scoring a run. They lost all nine games on the road and lost 10 straight now. Ouch! The D’Backs starters pitched well, the bullpen is another story.
The red-hot Braves are in town for a four game series. Braves have won eight in a row, the Dodgers four in row. Remember April? These two teams were in last place with an identical record of 9-14.
I feel so bad for Armando Galarraga but the guy was classy, he kept his cool. In our hearts you pitched a perfect game Armando! I don’t know what did Jim Joyce see in that play but he apologized to Armando.
Countdown to trip to Fenway Park: 15 days! Woohoo!
Dodgers Booster Club and the Annual Blood Drive
I went to the Dodgers Booster club last night. I try to attend their monthly meetings but sometimes it interferes with a game at the stadium.
A rep from The Red Cross was there to talk about the annual Blood drive in June where the Dodgers and Angels Booster Club team up to collect blood.
The Blood drive will be Saturday June 19. For those participating, you will get a t-shirt and a voucher for two tickets to your choice of team. Donate blood and Think Blue!
Unfortunately I will not participate as I will be in Boston for the Dodgers/Red Sox games but today we had our blood drive at work.
Another thing that went on at the Booster club meeting, in addition to the raffle of wonderful gifts like a Dodger gnome (I wanted that!), Dodger t-shirts and other Dodger merchandise was a chance to be on the field June 4th for the 1st Pitch. First name picked from the raffle got a choice of being the Pitcher, Catcher, Manager or Umpire. My raffle number was not called but it did get called to be one of the alternates, should someone not be able to make it.
Dodgers on The Road
In the meantime, my Bums are in Arizona for a three-game series. They won the first game. After a day off on Thursday, they will go to San Diego. I will be there for Saturday and Sunday’s game. I will be part of a group of 60. The Dodger Booster club also is having another group there of about 150. Lots and lots of Dodger fans make the short trip to San Diego, especially if the Dodgers play there on a weekend.
Saturday the Padres are giving out “Beat LA” t-shirts. Last year it was “Beat LA” towels. Look for Dodger fans to “alter” the wording.
And since Sue of http://rrrt.mlblogs.com/ asked to see a picture of me with my red wig, here it is. Cari is also in the pic. .
Here is also the picture I took of the KABC Dodger Talk announcement.
Update on our trip to San Diego
I just heard from Linda in San Diego that the Padres are not letting her use the word “Dodgers” on our group when is announced on the big screen. This is BS! She made the suggestion to call it “Vin Scully Fan club” I think is a great but I still do not like that we cannot use the word “Dodgers” as part of our group when they flash it on the big screen.
First of all, I want to give a big thank you to my friend Mike! Wow Mike! You blew me away with this post! Not only did you give us a wonderful post of our Brooklyn Bums when they won in 1955 but when I saw the title I was what? Wow Mike! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
When I first started reading Mike’s blog, I became hooked so jump on his Brooklyn Trolley for a wonderful ride!
Spring Training in Arizona
I have been having a ball here in Arizona! If you have not been to Spring Training, make an effort to go. Is so much fun seeing the regular players, the ones trying to make the team and others within the organization and those that work covering the Dodgers.
Tony Jackson who used to work for the Daily News and now works for ESPN Los Angeles, came over to greet me after I yelled “HEY TONY!” I am so glad that Tony is back working as a Dodger Beat Writer!
And Mike, yes, the patch is a go! Here is Loney sporting the patch. This picture is also for those that are looney for Loney:
Here is one for all the Ethierholics! is ao nice to see Andre’s swing! Thank you to my friend that I have nicknamed her Juana Soo Hoo for the great pictures she takes!
When I get home I will upload more pictures!
I also have some funny anecdotes to tell!
We had a lot of fun at the first game when we got there about an hour before game time. The following day we got there as soon as they let us get in which is 9:AM. I greeted the players as they made their way through the roped area. Everyone was so nice with “Hey!, good morning!” “hey, how are you?” I LOVE MY BOYS IN BLUE!
Rafael Furcal and Manny seemed inseparable. I greeted Rafi and he greeted me back. And then I said “Como estas Manny” He reponded smiling “Bien, Bien, si me puedo levantar en la manana, todo esta bien.” “Good, good, if I can get up in the morning, eveything is fine!”
Sunday’s game, after no news online that the game was going to be cancelled at Mesa, we headed that way. The Cub’s ballpark reminded me of Wrigley Field. There was a signing with ex-players such as Fergusen Jenkins, Rollie Fingers and Tommy Davis. I stopped to talk to Tomy Davis so I did not see who else was there. As I was talking to Tommy Davis, they made the announcement that the game had been cancelled so after I purchased a ball signed by Tommy Davis, we left. I know I can get Tommy to sign at Dodger Stadium or any event by the Dodgers but I felt that I am helping by making a purchase there. The balls were $20. Tommy signed it “Tommy Davis NL Batting Champ 1962 1963.
We ended up at the Arizona Museum for Young (AMY). They are featuring “Play Ball! The Cactus League Experience” from Feb. 26 – Nov. 7 2010. I recomended for both adults and kids. You can read more about it at www.arizonamuseumforyouth.com I will post pictures about this place after I get home!
Tomorrow we head to Scottsdale to watch our bums play the hated Jints.
So you all read about my 4 trips to Camelback Ranch during The Dodgers Spring Training right? Well, Arizona countered my Fastballs with Curveballs!!
I knew in one of those trips our picture was taken on the freeway but what do I get in the mail? Not one, not two, but THREE speeding tickets!!
I was like Oh No! That is not me on the pictures!!!
Surely I should have slowed down or taken this
on closer examination of the dates and times I was like
What???!? Two tickets within 3 minutes???????
Surely there must be something I can do about at least removing one!
evil, evil, evil.
