Twas The Night Before Dodgers Opening Day 2015

Twas the Night before Opening Day and all through Dodger town

Dodger fans anxiously waited for the final countdown

At the stadium the awnings were hung with much care

in hope that in October they will again be there

The fans all sleepy snuggled in their bed

while visions of World Series danced in their heads

after finishing blogging and loading the MLB at Bat

I went upstairs to take a long nap

when my alarm kept making such a clatter

I sprang out my bed to see what was the matter

Away to Dodger Stadium we left in a dash

drove up I-10  but had to stop for some cash

On the mound, Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw,

Goes against James Shield for the Opening Day  show

On Kershaw, on Adrian, On Uribe, on Puig, on Rollins, on Ellis

Give us a win fellas!

Giddiness!  Opening Day is the reason

Good luck to my Dodgers and to all fans a good season!

Congratulations Clayton Kershaw on your third Cy Young Award

Congratulations to Clayton Kershaw on winning his 3rd Cy Young Award!!  WOO-HOO!!  Way to go kid!!

I remember when Clayton Kershaw won his first Cy Young award.  The Dodgers issue a last minute invite to Dodger Season Ticket Holders for the Clayton Kershaw Cy Young News  Conference and I got to go!

From the Dodgers Newsletter to STH back in November 2011:

New Picture

This is what it says:

SURPRISE INVITE

SEASON TICKET HOLDER EMMA AMAYA GOT AN EXCLUSIVE INVITE TO DODGER STADIUM FOR THE CLAYTON KERSHAW CY YOUNG NEWS CONFERENCE

Dodger Season Ticket Holder Emma Amaya was constantly checking her phone on Nov. 17 while in a company webinar. She knew this was the day that the National League Cy Young Award winner would be announced. So every pocket of time she could find during the webinar at her company office in Chatsworth, she’d keep checking the news and her email. The news came around 11 a.m. that Clayton Kershaw won the Cy Young Award. Then, moments later, an email came through from the Dodgers inviting her, as a Season Ticket Holder, to come down for the news conference behind the mound at Dodger Stadium.

Without a car and still at work, she asked her Human Resources department if she could leave and take the company car because she had “an emergency.” Luckily for Emma, they allowed her to do both and she made her way to Dodger Stadium for a first-of-its-kind invitation extended only to Season Ticket Holders.

Mixed in with the media, Dodgers Matt Kemp and James Loney, legends like Vin Scully, Fernando Valenzuela and Don Newcombe, and other Season Ticket Holders, Emma sat with the group for a rare experience. Kershaw stood in front of a podium as media asked questions. Then Emma stood up and asked her own question of the 23-year-old lefty. After the Q&A broke up, she took pictures with Kemp, Loney and Valenzuela and chatted all of them up.

“It was awesome being back there to be part of such a special day,” Emma said. “We were so excited, so happy to share it with Clayton. It was incredible — a day we’ll never forget.”

The 2012 season will mark Emma’s eighth consecutive year as a Season Ticket Holder. She proudly cheers from her seat in Section 3 on the Top Deck. But it’s not just during the season that she can be on hand for special Dodger moments.

“All of us felt very special,” she said of taking part in the Kershaw event. “We felt privileged.”

No invitation this time but that is OK!   Enjoy your third award kid!

Clayton Kershaw is Back. Old-Timers game list released

El Niño de Oro, Clayton Kershaw is off the disabled list and back on the mound today against the Nationals.  It was 1:21 A.M.  when the game was over this morning at the Capital where the Dodgers were shutout 4-0  in a long rain delay

Dodgers are 4-3 on this road trip and 5-5 in the last 10.

Then Nationals are sending Right Handed Treinen.

Good luck Kershaw!

the skipper Kevin Kennedy is doing the radio game with Rick Monday today and tomorrow.

And Kershaw starts with a K.  He retires the Nationals on 12 pitches.   I am listening to the game.

I miss my boys in blue.  I miss Dodger Stadium but they return home on Thursday for a seven game homestand.  I don’t particular like four game series but the Dodgers will host the Giants for four and then the fishes come to town.

Thursday is Inflatable chair giveaway.  First time the Dodgers do this.  Saturday is the Old-timers game.  OMG!  I just saw the Dodgers tweet that Koufax will be at the Old-Timers game.  Also, Fernando, Orel Hershiser & Gagne.

Here is the info:

Congratulations to Clayton Kershaw: 2013 Cy Young Award Winner

Remember back in March of this year when Clayton Kershaw was on the cover of Sports illustrated this year?

some fans thought it would be bad luck.  I remember back in March hunting down for the magazine.  Some had a different cover but I found copies in Northridge for myself, Lorena and Rosie.  Well it was not bad luck for Kershaw to be on the cover.   With a record of 16-9, and an ERA of 1.83, he won the National League Cy Young Award.  Congratulations Mr. Sunshine.

When Kershaw won the award in 2011, he had a record of 21-5 with an ERA of 2.28.  After the announcement in 2011, the Dodgers invited Season Ticket holders to join in the celebration on the field.  I had taken the train to work but when I got the email, I borrowed the work company car and I went to the event.  What a fun day at the stadium that was!  Don Newcombe & Fernando Valenzuela were also there.

Only Sandy Koufax and Kershaw have won more than one Cy Young award with the Dodgers.   Sandy did it in 1963, 1965 & 1966.

The first recipient of the Cy Young award was Don Newcombe in 1956.  For the first eleven years (1956 – 1966) only one winner from Major League Baseball was selected.

Don Newcombe

Don Newcombe went 27-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 1956 to capture the Cy Young

I have been very busy that I have not updated my blog lately.  I hope to get back on track.   I may not be posting as often but I am always thinking Blue and following any baseball news.  I am currently reading the book “It Pays to Steal”  by Mauy Wills.

I drove to work Monday because the traffic was going to be lighter on Veterans Day and because I had made an appointment to cut my hair and color it.   Since I was going to be there a little longer than just getting a haircut, I took the book with me.   Well, I forgot the book there.  I had rented the book from the Los Angeles Central library.  I had to drive the following day (I usually take the train to work)  to go pick up the book.

On my way home I was thinking… They don’t know I am a big Dodger fan and a baseball fan.   I don’t think they follow the game. What did they think when they read the book title  “It Pays to Steal.”    I  know I had the bookmark  on chapter 9 “Formula for success”…. Maybe when I go back I will ask Carmen what they thought when they read the title.

Dodger Stadium: The Happiest Place on Earth, The Magic Castle

Vin Scully has called Dodger Stadium, the Magic Castle. That is what it was on Wednesday, The Magic Castle, The happiest place on Earth.

Greinke loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs but for some reason, I was not nervous. Greinke got out of it with no runs scored by the Cardinals. Greinke ended up giving up two runs in the third but that was all in his seven innings of game 5 of the NLCS. The bearded one, Brian Wilson was lights out in his 8th. Kenley Jansen in the 9th gave ME palpitations. The Cardinals scored two more runs but Kenley got out of it. Dodgers had four homeruns in the game: Adrian Gonzales off Kelly, Crawford off Kelly, A.J. Ellis off Mojica and Adrian with his second one off Oxford. Final score: Dodgers 6, Cardinals 4.

After game 3 on Monday, Waingwright said that Adrian’s celebratory gestures were Mickey Mouse. I wore my Dodgers Mickey Mouse ears for game 4 and 5. I lost track of how many fans asked me “Where did you get the Mickey Mouse ears?” They wore selling them back in 2010 at Disneyland when the MLB All-Star game was in Anaheim. My friend Greg and Linda who have yearly passes wore able to get them for me back then.

After Adrian’s first homer-run he did this:

Adrian was asked about it afterwards and he said he was just having fun.  when he hit his 2nd home-run, he was all business.   Adrian likes Mikey Mouse!  Anyone remember when he came from Boston to the Dodgers? He was wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt.

Adrian Gonzalez with his Mickey Mouse t-shirt when he came to the Dodgers from Boston.  In the picture, HOF Jaime Jarrin and Pepe Yniguez, Spanish broadcasters for the Dodgers.

We were all having fun with Waingwright’s comment  and that is the reason I wore my Mickey Mouse ears.

My friend Greg also wore his for Tuesday’s game

Photo: They've both been offered big bucks for the ears.

Ok, enough Mickey Mouse stuff.  haha.  OK, one more picture that Hector Becerra of the LA Times took when he snuck in behind me.

Several people at work approached the following day “Were you wearing Mickey Mouse ears at the game?”   “I saw you on TV”

Yep that is me!  It is a good thing I asked for a day vacation instead of “calling in sick”  As it was I was in a little trouble at work for forgetting about a meeting on Wednesday but hey!  my vacation day got approved.

OK so the Dodgers are back in St Louis for game 6.  Clayton Kershaw against Michael Macha.  Game time at 5:30  Let’s go Dodgers!

Let’s give Kershaw some run support

Dodgers and the Dream Center

Saturday August 31, I went to the Dream Center in Los Angeles. The Dream Center is a Pentecostal Christian Church mission located at 2301 Bellevue Avenue in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

IMG_0025
The Founders are Pastor Tommy Barnett, Pastor Matthew Barnett & Pastor Caroline Barnett

From the Dreamcenter.org website:

Founded in 1994, The Dream Center is a volunteer driven organization that finds and fills the needs of over 50,000 individuals and families each month.

We do this through mobile hunger relief and medical programs, residential rehabilitation programs for teens and adults, a shelter for victims of human trafficking, transitional housing for homeless families, foster care intervention programs, job skills training, life skills counseling, basic education, Bible studies and more. We work to meet people where they are at, to bring them hope and a way off the streets.

We’re also equipping others to serve. The Dream Center’s record of success has attracted urban missionaries and Christian leaders from across the U.S. and the world. As they volunteer with us, they gain insight and skills that they can take back to their own communities.

In this way, more than 100 independent Dream Centers have been launched nationally, as well as internationally. Many more churches and ministries have become more effective as we teach those who give their time and talent to do what we do. Many who once needed our services also go on to help others.

My friend Amanda who volunteers for the Dream Center has invited me several times,    She started going back when Josh Lindblom was with the Dodgers.   This time she told me that  there was going to be a private kids baseball clinic conducted by some Dodgers.   I went with my brother Victor and we stayed in the background taking some pictures.

Ross Porter back at Dodger Stadium and Dodgers at Colorado

Ross Porter will be at Dodger Stadium this weekend! I read it on Tom Hoffard column here: http://www.dailybulletin.com/ci_23359256/tom-hoffarth-media-ross-porter-returns-dodger-stadium

From the article:

The 74-year-old has stayed busy on various broadcasting projects and finds himself returning to the stadium today as an employee of Fox Sports West. Executive producer Tom Feuer hired him to call today’s CIF Southern Section Division III title game between Mira Costa and Serra (2 p.m.) as well as the Division II championship between Cypress and Temecula Valley (5 p.m.), both of which will stream on the FoxSportsWest.com Prep Zone online platform

Ross Porter, Vin Scully and Gerry Doggett

I would love it if he would return working for the Dodgers.

In the meantime, the Dodgers are in Colorado after dropping the two games at Anaheim Stadium. I made the trip to Anaheim for the two games. I drove for the first game and took the Metrolink special train the second night. I do recommend taking the train. It is $7 round trip. The train back from the stadium leaves 30 minutes after the last out.

Tonight is El Niño de Oro Clayton Kershaw against Garland. Game at 5:40 p.m. Pacific Time.
