I really thought the Dodgers had this Saturday game wrapped when the score was Dodgers 8, Cubs 5 but the bullpen let it get away when the Cubs scored five runs in the 8th. Final score: Cubs 10, Dodgers 8. LP: Guerier. WP: Jeff Samardzija (had to look how to spell that!)
Dodgers are now at 500 with 11 wins, 11 losses. Dodgers faired the same in the last homestand with 4 wins and 4 losses when they met with the Cardinals and Braves in a four game series with both teams. They lost the series with the Cardinals and won it against the Braves.
The last homestand saw the arrival of Jerry Sands, the minor league player of the year in 2010. Jerry got his first major league hit in his first game. We were all chanting “Jer-ry! Jer-ry! Jer-ry!” a la Jerry Springfield everytime he was coming to bat or he was recording an out at Left Fied. Jerry also got his first major league beanball (he ducked) off Tim Hudson.
I was one of the many Dodger fans that got interviewed at Dodger Stadium to give our opinion about Bug Selig taking over over seeing the Dodgers: Here is a link to the interview from KCAL channel 9 which is owned by CBS. You have to click on one of videos about fans being interviewed at the stadium
Rubber game on this Easter Sunday is so far Dodgers 6, Cubs 2. No lead is enough with our bullpen so Go Kuroda-san! Go Dodgers! 21 game hitting streak for Andre Either!
Happy Easter Sunday!
Is raining here in the LA area and the news are full of snow forecast at 1000 feet. With the Academy Awards coming Sunday, they are talking that there might be snow at the Hollywood sign which is 899 feet. So tonight is the biggie IF it happens. My Droid is showing 45/34 for Saturday with a picture of light snow.
What I am might miss in LA on Sunday is not the Academy Awards (On TV) but this event:
Vin Scully to be honored at Beverly Hills Wine Fest I would much prefer to hear Vin Scully than any speech from the Academy Awards.
Looking at the weather here in the LA area and in Arizona with thunderstorms, I am thinking of the song “Riders On the Storm” which made me think of “LA Woman” Three LA women will be heading on the road early Saturday morning, hopefully no snow on the road but most likely rain.
Remember Camelback Ranch Grand Opening in 2009? I had taken the Southern California Auto club magazine Westways with me. They have a section in the magazine titled “Picture This” where they feature travelers showing the magazine at their vacation destination. That year I took the magazine, submitted the picture and it made the magazine in 2009.
Dodgers Flashback Uniform.
Fans were given an option to vote for their favorite Brooklyn Uniforn out of three so that the winner uniform could be worn at the Dodgers Flashback days. The votes were counted and the winner is …..
My choice was the 1911 jersey, but the guys (Andre Either, Clayton Kershaw & Matt Kemp) make any uniform look good! I like the 1940’s uniforms! The uniforms will be worn for six midweek games with half price food & drinks. Also there will be half price tickets.
Flashback uniform picture from Jon SooHoo.
Spring is in the air! Check out the flowers outside where I work. They are called Magnolia Alexandria.
The Dodgers Caravan will be February 14th to the 15th! This year is full of community work where the fans get to join in!.
My friend Lorena, Erik and I are thrilled that we were able to signed up for both days. February 14th it will be Cleanup our LA river and February 15th, cleanup the Bay (Santa Monica). I can’t wait!
The Dodger current and past players along with Dodger announcers will also visit hospitals and schools as part of giving back to the community. I think getting the fans involved is a great idea. Details here
Dodgers will also be at the Lopez Tonight show in Burbank on Valentines Day but I could not get tickets to that. Can anyone get us at the Warner Bros studios on that day? I used to know someone that used to get me VIP tickets but that person moved out of state.
My friend Lorena and started talking Spring Training games when we met at the Laker game last night. Yeah, Lakers lost to the Spurs but we had a good time.
We along with friend Margie decided on the first two games at Camelback Ranch. The first game is Sunday February 27th against the Angels and Monday against the White Sox. We might get there on Saturday or early Sunday. I can’t wait!
February is looking pretty good! that is Andre Ethier jumping up with Joaquin
from the adoption site at www.heartgalleryla.org.
PLEASE click on the link above, then the video of the Dodgers salute to the Heart Gallery of Los Angeles in their pursuit to find homes for children.
In the video you can see Russell Martin, Andre Ethier and James Loney with children from the Heart Gallery of Los Angeles,
This is the second year the Dodgers team up with the Heart Gallery of Los Angeles doing the Calendar. According to Josh Rawitch, Dodgers Vice President of Communications, the Gallery has had a high rate of success since the kids have been featured on the Team calendar.
Dodgers took two out of three from the Rockies losing the one where Octavio Dotel was so wild in the 10th inning that he had three wild pitches. Pirate fans: Has Dotel always been this wild?
Ted Lilly on the hand pitched a complete two hit shutout game on Thursday giving the bullpen much needed rest and us fans a relief.
I took this picture at the end of the game.
Tonight is 90’s night with an Andre Ethier poster night giveaway. Tonight is also “Take the jersey off their back” night and player baskets will also be auctioned!
Homer Bailey is on the mound against Monasterios. Don’t you just love the name Homer Bailey? Originally Padilla was supposed to be on the mound but he is going on the injured list. I was looking forward to seeing the “Soap Bubble” pitch or like Padilla calls it “Curvita Suave.” Que te mejores Vicente!
Here are some pictures from Dodger Stadium taken by me or brother Vic.
It was Matt Kemp’s bobblehead on Tuesday. OK, so I went a little beyond centerfield when I tried to position Kemp’s bbh. . Just think like he is jumping the fence to catch the ball.
I took a picture of Loney’s bbh too. Now, I did positioned him right on first base!
The Deuce is Loose dancing before the 9th inning!
the view of the sunset from the Top Deck:
The birthday girl on Wednesday. Too bad the Dodgers did not give her a win but she’ll take two out of three.
A view of downtown from one corner of the Top Deck
Here is season ticket holder Gilbert surounded by
four FIVE of his little neighbors that he brought to the game on Wednesday. Every once in a while he brings them. They are very nice kids!
Billingsley will close off the four game series with Atlanta. How odd that the fourth game is on a Monday and that the game will be played at the regular time of 7:10 ET time. By the time the Dodgers get back it will early Tuesday morning.
Tuesday it will be Matt Kemp’s bobblehead night. with the Colorado Rockies in town.
Is Lorena’s birthday!
Andre Ethier will visit the Union rescue Mission from 11:30 am – 1 pm to serve food and Dodger Dogs to the homeless. Dodger partner Farmer John’s tailgate truck will provide 500 Dodger Dogs for the people that th mission serves on a daily basis. This will be Ethier’s third visit to the mission.
Taking public transportation thru downtown LA, I have noticed the increase in homeless people. I am glad that Andre, the Dodgers and Farmer John are part of this.
Pro Football Hall of Famer and Los Angeles native Warren Moon will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
Ryan Theriot will take kids on a back-to-school shopping spree at the Staples store in El Monte from 11:20 am – 100 pm courtesy of the Dodgers Dream Foundation and Staples.
With the Reds in town, Friday is 90’s night. The first 20,000 fans will receive Andre Ethier posters in honor of the 90’s
Friday is the annual Shirts off Their Backs auction. All of the Dodgerss’ game-worn, autographed jerseys from the team’s victory over the Yankees on Saturday, June 26 will be auctioned off on the club level outside of the Vin Scully press box from 5:10 – 8:45 p.m. Goodie baskets made by Dodger wives that include their husband’s favorite things will also be up for bid. I’ve bid on a couple of baskets in the past. Is always very interesting what is included in the baskets. One of the most elaborate baskets was Grady Little that included a ride on his motorcycle. Broxton has included a nice handmade wooden box. Inside the baskets you can find candy, a glove, batting gloves, shirts, movies, certificates, popcorn, spikes, a bat, etc.
The first “Bark in the Park at Dodger Stadium” will take place on Saturday presented by Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc. Fans that purchase an AYCE (All You Can Eat) ticket in the right field pavillion for $25 per human can bring their dog. I’ve never been to one of these events at other parks but why are the Dogers charging $25 per dog?
Sunday is the usual Viva Los Dodgers Sunday.
God willing, I’ll try to make it to all the games. Go Blue!
photo from the Union Rescue mission.
First of all, I’ve been on the DL for about three days with food poisoning. I am feeling better now but my stomach muscles are still sore. I think I lost five pounds but I rather take the pounds back than to go thru that. Is a good thing this did not happen the night before I got my Sandy Koufax baseball.
So my friend Lore and I met Jeff Kliewer, the Director of Development of Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation by the main office. We were scheduled to meet him at 4:30 so we could go down the field and watch batting practice standing on the field! We both were very excited for that opportunity!
When we got there Joe Torre was having his daily meeting wiht the media where they gather around with their mikes and notebooks around the dugout.
We set to checkout BP and all the view from there.
Afterwards Joe Torre came over and hand me my baseball!
Joe said that is one of the best signatures he’d seen on a baseball.
Chatting with the skipper.
Afterwards Joe said he needed go get back to work so he headed to the cage.
I got a picture with Andre:
Next I got a picture with Matt Kemp and he signed the picture I have with him from the Bluetopia movie premier.
Jorge Bahaia who was there to throw out the first pitch, came from El Salvador wtih 50 of his family and friends. Jorge and his wife Elsy have been attending a homestand since 1945 and have never missed a World Series at home or on the road. WOW! and impressive record. I had thought I had taped an interview with him but I was very sorry that it did work. I did not know that they were attending a whole homestand until I read it afterwards in Jon Weisman’s blog.
if when you come back to Dodger Stadium, I would love to talk to you more about the old Dodgers that you got see play!
Jorge Bahaia showing the ceremonial baseball he was going to throw. It reads “Los Angeles Dodgers Ceremonial First Pitch Dodger Stadium 2010.”
The shirt that the family and friends of the Jorge and Elsy Bahaia were sporting:
Here is part of the Bahaia family:
James Loney was signing for the Bahaia family when I told him I had something to show him.
James said “OH wow!” “You should get him to sign it.” “Here let me sign it first.” It is a picture of his dad and I at Fenway Park this year when I happen to see Mr. Loney before he crossed the street to get into Fenway. Lore happen to capture this picture.
Here is Jeff of the Safe At Home Foundation
Here is Lore enjoying being on field. She has more pictures that she took.
Here is my pass to watch BP on the field.
Well, it was time now to leave and go to our seats.
We ended up sitting in the family section in the Loge area.
Here is Mr. Jorge Bahaia throwing out the first pitch:
I was excited because Padilla had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning.
A friend of mine that knows I keep score had texted me that if it happened, he wanted a copy of my scoresheet. I told him “Absolutely” We did not mention what it was so we did not jinxed it.
Padilla pitched a great game giving out two hits, striking out nine and getting two hits! I love watching the “soap bubble” like Vin Scully calls that slow pitch Padilla throws.
August 4, 2010 was a very special day for me, one that I would never forget! Thank you Joe Torre, Thank you Jeff Kleiwer, thank you Safe At Home Foundation and thank you Sandy Koufax!
Dodgers, Mariners(but likes the Dodgers), Linda a Phillie and Dodger fan, Dodger fan (me!), Dodger fan and Angel fan at the end. Way to represent Dodger fans!
That is the only time you would catch me wearing red.
Linda and I are designated hitters so we waited where they would take us.
Our group was given the assignment to stuff the welcome bags in the back and to be a greeter handing out the bags. I was going to greet but when I went to the back room, I noticed they needed help stuffing so there I sat stuffing and stuffing and stuffing..
I had fun with the ladies but I had enough of stuffing.
I took a little break and stopped by to see Rollie Fingers
I put back my volunteer shirt when I spotted this cutout of Andre Ethier!
Then I was back to stufing bags.
At 5, I headed back on the 5 freeway to Blue Heaven on Earth! I got there 30 minutes before game time. The Dodgers rewarded me with a win. It should not have been that close but the score was Dodgers 9, Cubs 7.
Checkout Deuce! The famous “bailarin” little dancer at Dodger Stadium. Deuce is a riot! Here he is doing his dance routine. Everyone knows deuce, including the players.
Busy day today with photo day, game and then a softball charity game that I am thinking of attending at Pepperdine. It is being hosted by Steve Garvey. Lots of players and celebrities will be there.
Hey Ernie Banks was at Dodger Stadium yesterday! I missed taking a picture of him. Maybe he will be back today!
OK I barely had time today to post the pictures from the 70’s night at Dodger Stadium. Lots of pictures for lots of laughs.
Brady Bunch actor Barry Williams. He said “That looks like my hair in the 70’s.
The famous Roberto of Vinscullyismyhomeboy took this picture. Jon Soo Hoo had asked me to pose with his poster. I did not noticed I had buttoned the shirt wrong until an usher in the club level pointed it out to me!
Woohoo! the pride of Defiance, Ohio, Chad Billingsley came thru with the first win of the season.
But guys (Padillia, Kershaw, Billingsley) , we do need someone to go beyond 5 1/3 innings! Let’s hope Kuroda can give us at least 7 innings to give the pen some rest.
Belly (Belliard) went 3-5 with four RBIs’ and a Homerun.
Reed Johnson who has an MLB Blog here Reed Between the Lines went 3-4 with two RBIs!
Locos Azules, My MLBlog Fantasy Baseball team
I joined the MLB Baseball fantasy team this year. Thanks Julia! Thanks Chris!
Among the players I have in my team Los Locos Azules are:
Albert Pujols! Yeah!!!
Andre Ethier! Woohoo!
Clayton Kershaw! My baby will come back strong!
Vicente Padilla. Tengo fe Nica! (I have faith in you Nica!)
Jonathan Broxton! Another one of my favorite Dodgers!
Because Kuo is on the DL, I got Monasterios! I am excited about this Dodger rookie!
Four days till Opening Day at Dodger Stadium! In the meantime the Boys in Blue will play the Marlins starting tonight for a three game series!
Lets go Dodgers! Let’s go Locos Azules!
I hear from several fans that they will stop going to games because of status of the Dodgers concerning the ownership but for me…
I am not willing to miss seeing Kemp, Ethier, Loney, Kershaw, Billz, Broxton and Russell, my favorites! Nope, I am not going to miss hearing Vin Scully at the games.
There is no better sound than when I walk inside Dodger Stadium and I listen to Nancy Bea in the background while I walk over to the bullpen area and I hear the sound the ball is making as it hit the mitt. The boys in Blue on the field hitting BP and the pitchers in the outfield catching some baseballs.
Vin already made my day last Sunday by smiling and waiving at my friend Erik and I when we greeted him and wished him to have a happy Easter.
Nope, no matter what, I will be at the stadium, day in and day out. Is is my happy home, it is my home away from home.
There is Sandy Koufax on this picture walking to the field. He is also on the big screen.
When I am at Dodger Stadium and I look to the field and then take the rest of the view from there with the mountains in the background, all is right with the world.
Yeah, there will be some games that I will be cursing under my breath, but they will others that will be exhilarating and no better way to share those moments than with my friends at the stadium.
Let the second game begin in Pittsburgh! We got 22-year old Clayton Kershaw going this evening.
For those giving Joe Torre a hard time for starting Padilla for the Opener on the road, I say to them, did you hear what Vin Scully said ? If you did not, here it is:
“In Showbiz you would say you are opening a big musical and you would say “Padilla, you are singing the lead in Hartford, Connecticut. And you would say “Kershaw, you are singing the lead on Broadway.” “
I love my Dodgers!
