James Loney Appreciation Post
Lorena was reminding me of the time we went to see a Dodgers Spring Training game then after the game we headed to Las Vegas to watch the Dodgers play the next day against the Chicago Cubs. At Holman Stadium, there was this Cubs fan guy sitting in back of us saying “I hate Loney!” He is a Cubs killer!”
James Loney hit a grand slam off Ryan Dempster in the fifth inning. It gave the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.

I was watching the first game with the Marlins from the Field level when a friend alerted me that James ‘s dad was sitting in our row in the late innings. I headed upstairs to say hello to him and wish James Loney good luck thru him. I had a little chat with him. I am not going to repeat everything he said but basically he said that James probably needed a change. Raissa is in the picture. She used to be in the Loge area where the Dodger family sit.
We saw James go out on the field at the conclusion of the game to celebrate with the team the win. Afterwards his hand went to his face. Got a little emotional then.
I have followed these kids careers since the minor leagues. I remember seeing James Loney at Vero Beach. When a couple of guys from the ITD (InsidetheDodgers) blog (blog is no longer being updated) came up with the Loney Song, my friend Erik and I started signing it to him at Dodger events, at Dodger Stadium, at Spring Training, on road trips.

One of the best Dodger Caravans was at Panda Inn in Pasadena where the Dodgers were our waiters. Lorena, Erik, a friend of Lorena and I had James Loney and Pepe Yniguez as our waiters although the person that brought us our food was Andre Ethier. This was in 2008. I remember James Loney asking us “Is there anything I can bring you guys?’ “Do you guys want a photograph, an autograph?” We were just so happy to be there and having him as our waiter. Dodgers Bowling Extravaganza & Bad Moon Rising
Dodgers are off today. They got swept by the hated Giants at home. It was sad being at Dodger Stadium and watching this. Dodgers never led in any of the three games.
So what are some Dodgers doing tonight?
The Eighth Annual Dodgers Dream Foundation Bowling Extravaganza is taking place tonight, Thursday, august 23, 2012 at Lucky Strike Lanes L.A. LIVE . James Loney has been hosting the event for the last few years. Here is more information from the Dodgers website:

What a great idea this year for the Dodger Caravan to make it a community event where the fans get to contribute along the Dodger current and past players! Today on Valentines Day, the first stop was the LA River cleanup.
Here are some of the current and past Dodger players waiting to get dirty. Rudy Law, Bobby Castillo, Kenny Landreaux, Tommy Davis, James Loney and Don Mattingly. In the background you can see the train tracks, where my commuter train goes by.
Andre Ethier was not there yet but he arrived a little later. He was coming straight from the airport.

My Loney has a first name, is J A M E S. My Loney has a second name is L O N E Y. Oh I love to see him everyday and if you ask me why I’ll say… ’cause Loney has a way with H I T T I N G. That is what is in the back of Erik and my shirt. Loney was pointing it out to a sportscaster from Fox Sports so the guy was singing it as he read it.
I scraped my leg trying to pull a shopping cart that had some sharp wires, Christmas lights and whole bunch of stuff. I had rain boots but it happened above the rain boot.
When we left, we heard a “clump clump”. Erik asked me if I had someone in my trunk. It ended up that was my cellphone I had left on top of my trunk.
Even with scraping myself, alergies acting up and losing my cellphone, I enjoyed my day helping cleanup the LA river with Dodger players and Dodger fans.
It was great sharing this day with friends on Valentines Day! Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day. I can’t wait to go to Santa Monica tomorrow to continue cleaning up with our Dodgers!
Vin Scully will be at Fenway Park for one game!
Last night it was announced that Vin Scully will make the rare trip to Fenway Park for one game! He will broacast Friday night’s game! WOOHOO!!!
The last time the Dodgers went to Fenway Park, Vin also made the trip for one game. Here he is throwing out the first pitch at that game: yeah, that is Jaime McCourt in the background.

Happy Birthday to our own Sweet Lou! Sweet Lou Johnson turned 75, September 22nd. I love seeing your smiling friendly face at the stadium Sweet Lou!
Johnson is most well known for his home run off Jim Kaat in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series that gave the Dodgers a lead they would never relinquish against the Twins.
Johnson also played a key role in another memorable win by Sandy Koufax that year.
During Koufax’s perfect game against the Cubs, on September 9, 1965, Johnson was the only batter from either team to reach base. He walked off Bob Hendley to start the fifth, advanced to second on a Ron Fairly sacrifice bunt, then stole third and scored when catcher Chris Krug’s throw went into left field. Johnson also doubled in the seventh inning, breaking up Hendley’s no-hitter.

Friday 9/11: Our warrior Hiroki Kuroda gave us 8 strong innings.
Casey (at the bat) Blake returned from five games off with a three RBI homerun!
Dodgers own Matt Cain. He is 0-7 lifetime against the Dodgers while Hiroki Kuroda is 5-1 against the Giants.
Saturday 9/12:
Vicente Padilla improved to 3-0 since joining the N.L. West turning in six solid innings.
Russell Martin & James Loney homered on Saturday. These two are heating up! Torre needs to keep James (ballgame) Loney in a grey uni. All his homeruns (12) have been on the road.
Sunday 9/13. Ahhh the matchup of Chad Billingsley and our old pitcher Brad Penny who really, really (haha remembering Jane’s book “An Ex To Grind”) wanted to “beat LA“.
You see Penny left the Dodgers on not so nice terms. For one, the Dodgers didn’t believe Penny last season when he said his shoulder was hurt, and he didn’t take that very well. After Penny signed with the Sox he let the Dodgers know how he felt.
Then Larry Bowa responded.
“You mean the same guy (Penny) who was never on time, out of shape and has one complete game? He has more stuff to worry about in the A.L. East than me. He has to worry about getting people out. He was never on time, was out of shape and never helped the kids out. Put that on the (expletive) dot-com. Put it in the headline.”
Upon his arrival to the Giants Penny met with the media, and one reporter asked him about pitching in front of 42,000 Dodger hating fans. Penny interrupted the reporter, then corrected him; “You mean 42,000 and one.”
Vin Scully mentioned Sunday that Larry Bowa and Penny met behind closed doors.
Penny did beat the Dodgers 2-7 but heck the important thing is that the Dodgers took the series!
I am really, really worry about Chad Billingsley. Like Vin Scully said “the mistery of Chad continues.” Chad has struggled big time in the second half.

The Chad going for #10 on Manny’s Bobblehead night!
Tonight is Manny’s bobblehead night and as expected the game was declared a sellout a few days back. With Manny being hit on the wrist by Homer Bailey last night, we are not sure if he will play. We were put at ease when it was announced at the stadium that the X-Rays were negative.

Kiss-Cam and James Loney. Last Saturday when they were showing on the big screen couples kissing, they showed a young woman with a very colorful sign saying “Kiss Me Loney!”. James Loney was not playing that night so when he saw the sign from the dugout, he came out scanning the crowd for the sign and sent a kiss. Of all the Dodger players, I think Loney is the one that is quiet and shy, so it was funny seeing him do that. When he noticed the camera was showing him on the big screen, he smiled embarrased and went and he went back into the dugout laughing. It was funny!. Usually signs are not permitted at Dodger Stadium but every once in a while fans do sneak them in.
Juan Castro and his at bat music. Juan Castro started the other day for Orlando Hudson. When they played his at bat music, you could hear all around the stadium including my friend Lore and I with the typical yells like “AHUA” when hearing a good mariachi. The name of the song is “La Negra” or “Al Son de la Negra” here it is if you want to hear it. coudl not do the youtube.

Casey Blake…Is he Mejicano? When we started hearing the Mexican song “La Negra on Tuesday, my friend Lore and I looked at each other. She said “Is Casey Mexican?”. We even got a text from my brother Vic asking about it. My friend Lore answered “well, he is a Doyer.”.
.Bowling with James Loney and company; Thursday is a day off and is the annual Dodgers bowling event to benefit the Dream Foundation. It is about $850 per person so a little too steep for me, besides I should be on the D.L as i have a bum shoulder. Still I am heading to the game soon.
With the Marlins in town this weekend, the upcoming events are:
Friday night. A tribute to Elvis Night_ Fireworks.
Saturday night.. Hollywood Star Night. with that softball game starting at 5.
Sunday afternoon: Webkinz pet Giveaway for first 15K kids 14 and under.
Oh and a new giveaway has been announced for September 14 against the Pirates: Free Dodger dogs. Not the stuff animal but the ones you eat.

Breakfast, Photo Day, Game Day & Bluetopia Movie.
What a busy Saturday! It all started with meeting at 9:am for breakfast at Barragans on Sunset, five minutes away from Dodger Stadium. Here is the restaurant’s breakfast sign outside.
Here is the regular menu and menu special with a Dodger hat we put there.
Here are the dishes we were having: Chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. Bloody Marys are $2.50 and they are good so are the dishes. For those that might not know Chilaquiles is a combo of crispy corn tortillas cooked with eggs,chopped tomatoes, onions and jalapenos serve with sour cream, rice and beans. yum. It was good!
After a hearty breakast we were ready to head to the stadium for photo day. Here is a picture of my friend Erik & I while we waited for the players. I found I heart Dodgers banner a couple of years back at a local antique.

Dodgers Win!!
Billingsley picked up his 3rd win even though the Rockies were getting him into deep counts. Manny along with Ethier went yard with two homeruns!
BLUETOPIA
The day was topped by watching the Dodger premiere movie “Bluetopia”. Tim Marx did a wonderful job of capturing the fans love for our beloved Dodgers. I laughed, I cheered and got choked up watching it. James Loney, Billingsley, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Kershaw attended. I’ll say more later about the event. I am glad that I got to go and sit with my friends that I have made because of our love for our Dodgers.
