Baseball Reliquary Exhibition -Bill Veeck- Now to May 24. “Veeckfest” May 19.

I am excited that this exhibition is close to me at the Arcadia library. This is from the Arcadia library:
Bill Veeck: Baseball’s Greatest Maverick, an exhibition which utilizes photographs, artworks, artifacts, and documents to chronicle the life and times of one of the most influential figures in baseball history. The owner of four teams – the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, and Chicago White Sox (twice) – Veeck was a baseball impresario and innovator, an unflinching advocate of racial equality, and a visionary who spent a lifetime challenging baseball’s and society’s well-entrenched status quo.

“VeeckFest” — Saturday, May 19 – 1pm-5pm
http://www.ci.arcadia.ca.us/images/veeck__2.jpg> In conjunction with its exhibition, Bill Veeck: Baseball’s Greatest Maverick, the Baseball Reliquary presents “VeeckFest,” an in-depth look at Bill Veeck, the transformational, visionary figure, whose life and imagination helped define the several eras he encompassed. This free event will include a film screening; book signing; and panel discussion featuring, among others, Paul Dickson, author of Bill Veeck: Baseball’s Greatest Maverick; sportswriters John Schulian and Ron Rapoport, who covered Veeck for the Chicago Sun-Times and other publications; and screenwriter/filmmaker Ken Solarz, who owns the movie rights to Veeck’s 1962 autobiography, Veeck—as in Wreck. This will be a popular event so please come early. Space is limited to the first 150 people. Free admission. Further information, phone (626) 791-7647; for directions, phone (626) 821-5567 during library hours.

There is a Dodger game on 5/19 but I am heading to the “Veeckfest” then head to Dodger Stadium. Oh oh, this is the same day for the Dodger fanfest. Is going to be a busy day.

It did not rain enough last night at the game. It should have rained prior to the 9th inning when everything fell apart. Dodgers were leading 2-1 when Javy Guerra came in the 9th. He was getting hit then he got hit by a line drive that hit him on jaw. Mattingly should have taken him out then. Instead the Braves scored 3.

Off day today for the Dodgers so I am heading to the Arcadia library to take a look at the exhibition. Washington Nationals in town tomorrow with Clayton Kershaw on the mound!

Sunday Dodgers Cornucopia. Rest in peace Joyce Terry.

Dodgers lost today 12-0. It was one of those games, no hitting, no pitching, no fielding. There were three errors in the game including one given to Dee Gordon who was celebrating his 24th birthday. I don’t know what the official scorer was looking at because Dee Should not had gotten that error. It should have gone to Billingsley. I like Billz but how could Dee catch that throw? Anyway, let’s put that game behind us.

Dodgers are back in town! They play three with the Braves. The matchups are:
Monday: Jurrjens against Capuano
Tuesday: minors against Harang
Wednesday: Beachy against Lily.

I was showing my brother Vic that Lily is 2-0. He was saying “Lily is 2-0? He just came off the DL!” Then he said in Spanish “Que suerte tienen los que no se bañan” LOL. That means lierary “How lucky are those that don’t take a shower”, It applies to those that without having much “qualities”, Lucky Lady smiles at them and they do well. LOL. Vic said it laughing.

Thursday is an off day and I need one as I have a problem with my car driver’s side window. Friday’s matchup was supposed to be Kershaw against Strasburg but because of the Nationals rain delay, this is what MLB At Bat is showing for the matchups:

Friday: Detwiler against DBD (Why is it showing this?, I thought it was Kershaw)
Saturday: Strasburg against DBD (again, why? Maybe Kershaw has been moved here? )
Sunday: DBD, against TBD. Busy pitcher this TBD 😉

Rest in peace Joyce Terry.
I was very sad to find out during Opening Week that Joyce Terry, a member of the Top Deck family passed away. My deepest condolences to Carl. Carl and Terry celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary at Dodger Stadium last year on June 20, 2011.

Carl & Joyce Terry at Dodger Stadium celebrating their 62nd Anniversary

The picture is a picture I took of Carl’s pictures. The inscription says June 20, 2011. LA Dodgers 4, Tigers 0. Clayton Kershaw pitched a 2 hit shutout striking out 11.

I will miss seeing Joyce with her pink baseball hat. She was battling cancer but you could not tell seeing her walking down those stairs to her seat.

The first time I met Carl and Joyce was at Vero Beach in 2008. We were in the long line at the gift shop when Terry asked me if I had been to the Cardinals Dodger game the day before at Roger Dean Stadium. I said Yes! Then he said “Were you waiving a Dodger towel?’ Again I said Yes! We started talking about the Dodgers, where we sit at the Stadium. When I said “I have season tickets in the Top Deck. He said “So do we!” It is a small world.

Here is a picture of Carl and Joyce back in their younger days:

Here is a picture of their plane. They used to travel everywhere. Carl said they had another trip scheduled to Europe this year. It was such a joy watching them together. I can’t flip this picture so is going that way.

Rest in peace Joyce. Carl mentioned that Joyce name fitted her because she brought him and everyone else joy.

Dodgers take 3 out of 4 in San Diego starting with Opening Day!

I kept getting texts that I was on TV.

My cousin Edgar’s wife Jeannie tagged me on this picture that she took of the TV screen

Magic was at Opening Day in San Diego along with Frank McCourt & his GF.  This picture taken by my friend Lorena (LuvtheDodgers23).   Notice Frank’s GF eyeing Matt Kemp

I was having a hard time with my camera.  Jon SooHoo of Dodgersphotog.mlblogs.com told me I bounced the camera too many times.  Actually it started working better after I had him look at it.   Still, I did not take good pictures from afar but luckly my friend Lorena  did so I am sharing  her pictures:

Opening Day at Petco.  Second time Lorena and I go to Petco Park Opening Day against the Dodgers.  First time was in 2009.

SkinnySwag!   Dee Gordon.  I saw him after the game and I told him I have him in my fantasy Baseball team.  He said “I am not doing too well”   I said that is OK, to early.  Lorena pointed to her heart and said “We Love you!”   The following day I saw him again after the game and he had done so good that I stopped him and excitedly I told  him “You did great today Dee!”  He in turned gave me a hug and told me “Thank you ma’am”   that so cute of him.

Clayton Kershaw was fighting the stomach flu but he insisted to Mattingly that he still wanted to pitch on Opening Day.  He could only go three innings because of the stomach flu.    He also collected the first hit for the Dodgers with a double.   his ERA:  0.00 and his batting average:  1.000.

Because of the day off today, Kershaw is starting the Home Openner tomorrow afternoon.

Josh Lindblom came in after Kershaw and collected the win.  Javy Guerra got the save.  Thanks Lorena for the pictures.

This picture from Jon Soohoo of Dodger fans making the trip from LA to Petco Park.  This is before Friday’s game.

Lorena and I.  ‘yeah, I did not noticed before that I closed my eyes.

Reaction of Dodger fans after @skinnyswag Dee Gordon terrories the Padres.

Happy Opening Day Eve!  Happy Opening Day Eve!  Happy Opening Day Eve!   Can’t wait to be at Dodger Stadium tomorrow!

Happy 24th Birthday Kershaw and I dedicate the post to my dad.

Clayton Kershaw turns 24 today!  Happy birthday Kershaw!

Here is Kershaw with Sandy Koufax this year.  I had already posted this picture but I can look at it every day!   Picture from Jon SooHoo.  Take a look at his blog with his terrific Dodger pictures at http://dodgersphotog.mlblogs.com/   Jon came in at #12 in the February MLB Blog Pro blog but Giant photographer blog came in at #2 so keep going to Jon’s blog on a daily basis and give him credit if you post his pictures.  image

Today is also Father’s day in Honduras so I dedicate this post to my papito Pedro.   He passed away in 2005 on June 29th, a day after my birthday.   Miss you dad!  Wish I would have spent more time with you.  Still remember that day as a 13 year old kid leaving Honduras and crying like a baby when I had to say goodbye to you.    Happy times when I went back to Honduras to see you even when you were sick.

I dedicate this song to you papi.  “Ese que me dio vida”  “That one that gave me life”  de Alejandro Saenz.

Here are some lyrics:

Con tu sonrisa de medio lao cuántos te quiero te habras callao.
Con tu eterno cigarrillo Con tu ojera y tu descuido La más bella de las danzas Es tu cojera al caminar….

How many “I love you” you must have quiet down…..With your eternal cigarette, with your dark eye shadows and your carelessness The most beautiful dance is your limp as you walk…

Happy Father’s Day to all that celebrate today and happy birthday to my cousin Mina.

Note:  I found my phone.  the poor thing slept the night under the car rental at the hotel in Arizona.  Good thing it was the night before it rained.   Forgot my camera between New Hampshire airport, taxi and hotel.  Was found at airport so need to make a trip there to pick it up.   When I described  the bag (a little Victoria Secret bag) the guy said “Oh yeah, we have it”   Crazy trip from CA to AZ for Spring Training games with friends Lorena & Elisa, then flight delayed in Phoenix.  80 of us were making connection flights in Philadelphia.   Guy next to me was going to Manchester, England and I to Manchester, NH.  The other lady was on her way to Israel.    Fun times in AZ and now working here in NH this week.

Happy St Patrick’s Day

Happy ST Patrick Day everyone!  We are in Arizona.  Going to the first game at Talking Stick for the Dodger game  against Colorado.  Then is back to Camelback Ranch for the game against the hated Jints.  I am wearing my green jersey.  Lost my phone.  So fricking mad at myself but “que se la hacer”  what can you do?  I’ll just try to enjoy the rest of trip.

St Patrick video with Kershaw, Mattingly, Kemp, Loney, Ethier

Happy St. Patrick Day

Matt Kemp’s days till Opening Day at Dodger Stadium & Clayton Kershaw’s day till Opening Day at Petco Park

Our Double K of trouble for the opposition!   There are Matt Kemp (27) days till the Dodgers Opening Day at Dodger Stadium

and Clayton Kershaw (22) days till Opening Day at Petco Park

WOOHOOO!!!   Can’t wait.  In the meantime I went to see UCLA play USC at Dodger Stadium last night.  Here are the 2012 pocket schedules we picked last night at Dodger Stadium.

Look at the upcoming promotion for Mother’s Day!  An Andre Ethier bag

I had a great time sitting with Dee, Kevin, Ernest & Arturo.  Arturo in the USC sweatshirt. Kevin is the one behind the green hat & Ernest with his Dodger hat.

Part Two of Six Women and a Men

Before I head back to CamelbackRanch this weekend, I wanted to post more pictures from my first trip so here they are:

The seven of us with Manny Mota.  Too bad the kid taking the picture did not get us all in the picture.   Good thing Rosie had another picture.

Sneaking in with Tommy Lasorda.  Tommy had signed a ball for me back in 2010 but the ink was getting lighter (no, I did not originally use a blue  pen)  so he signed it again.  He also signed my Mark Langill book.  He started looking at the pictures in the book commenting about the rookies of the year on the opposite page where he signed.   Thanks Tommy!   Love you!

Everyone stopped to watch Kershaw pitch in the intersquad game.

Kershaw had a good outing.

It was time for us to head out but before that we spotted Pepe Yniguez with Bill DeLury.  Mr. DeLury has been with the Dodgers since 1950, mostly as Traveling Secretary.   He started with the Dodgers as a 17-year- old office boy.  Evan of Opinion of Kingman’s Performance did a wonderful job in interviewing  Mr. DeLury.  Here is the link  http://opinionofkingmansperformance.blogspot.com/2011/06/second-longest-tenured-dodger-employee.html

Lorena with Pepe Yniguez.  Pepe has been broadcasting Dodger games en Espanol since 1999.

Pepe also teams up with Manny Mota calling some games on TV on Time  Warner cable channel 858

Javy Guerra got a kick of Rosie bringing the Rookie Hazing picture of Javy dressed as a Taco.

Javy when he saw me that I sporting my Javy batting practice jersey, he turned me around to show another player  and said “See?  she is my number ONE fan!”   🙂

I was playing photographer.   Here is Priscy with Javy

Here is Amanda with Javy

Here is Tony Jackson, Beat Writer for ESPN Los Angeles.   I like his long hair.

Taking a well deserved rest before we go inside Margaritaville

After food and drinks we headed next door to Saddle Ranch for some tequila shots and to ride the mechanical bull

The bull kicks Rene

Priscy is next

She gets knocked out but she gets back on the bull

She is having a bull, I mean a ball  lol

Nice going Desiree!  Even falling, you fall with grace.

Time to head back to LA.  I am going going  back to Cali Cali…..

Next Trip:  Leaving Thursday night  with Lorena and her niece Elisa.  Lorena will be driving.  They will drive back to Cali.  I on the other hand need to head to NH to work there the following week so I will miss Sunday’s game as my flight leaves at noon.   I can’t wait for Thursday night!
