Twas The Night Before Dodgers Opening Day 2015

Twas the Night before Opening Day and all through Dodger town

Dodger fans anxiously waited for the final countdown

At the stadium the awnings were hung with much care

in hope that in October they will again be there

The fans all sleepy snuggled in their bed

while visions of World Series danced in their heads

after finishing blogging and loading the MLB at Bat

I went upstairs to take a long nap

when my alarm kept making such a clatter

I sprang out my bed to see what was the matter

Away to Dodger Stadium we left in a dash

drove up I-10  but had to stop for some cash

On the mound, Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw,

Goes against James Shield for the Opening Day  show

On Kershaw, on Adrian, On Uribe, on Puig, on Rollins, on Ellis

Give us a win fellas!

Giddiness!  Opening Day is the reason

Good luck to my Dodgers and to all fans a good season!

Chat with Yasiel Puig. Part two

I was disappointed that Yasiel Puig was late getting to the game yesterday.  I don’t know whose fault that was.   his driver?  but  Yasiel is also to blame.  Ok, but that is not why I started this post.

I forgot some of the conversation in my prior post.   After Wednesday’s Dodger win in San Diego, my friend Lorena reminded me of something I left out from my first post.

While at the café in San Diego on Monday, I told Yasiel we were there Sunday for the Opener and we were going to be there for the next two games.  Rosie then said “except for me, I leave tonight because I have to go back to work”   Yasiel then said “Oh, if we win the next two games, then I am going to blame you for the loss yesterday (Sunday).”    Rosie said “OMG!”  and we all laughed. Yasiel   then said “I am going to post your picture at the entrances so they won’t let you in.”    When the game was over on Wednesday night at Petco Park, Lorena said “Rosie can’t come to the game.”   Well, Rosie was at yesterday’s home opener and the Dodgers lost so here is a picture of Rosie:

You are welcome Rosie!  What are friends for 😉    Dodger wins come first!   You can come back if I give you a “limpia”  with ruda.   We will give you a cleansing with Rue (that hierba is very odorous)  or we send you to a brujo.

Haikus: It’s Time for Dodger Baseball in Australia

It’s time for Dodger Baseball in Australia!   I have been waiting all day Friday and will wait all night till Saturday at 1.am. when the game is due to start. Here are some quick haikus:

It’s Time for Dodger Baseball!!

Ahhh.  I’ve been waiting for this day!   The first Dodger Spring Training game!  So

like the apron says “The Heck with housework!   Let’s see the Dodgers Play!”

Yesterday was also the launch of the Dodgers new TV Network: SportNetLA

When I got home from work, I spent all the evening watching  SportNetLA until past midnight.  While watching the station.

I also renewed my subscription to MLB at Bat so that I can listen to the game  while I work, at Dodger Stadium and on the road.

Today is 24 days till the Dodgers Opening Day in Australia.  When I think of #24, I think of

Walter Alston went on to manage the Dodgers on one-year contracts for 23 seasons (1954-1976).

Welcome back Baseball!  I missed you!!

ESPN showing some love to the Dodgers

The first Dodger game in the US has been changed from Monday March 31, to Sunday March 30.   I am so glad that my hotel reservations start on Sunday.   Details of the changes from Jon Weisman here http://dodgers.mlblogs.com/2014/01/09/dodgers-first-u-s-game-of-2014-season-march-30-in-san-diego/

From the link:

So to clarify the schedule:

  • March 16 (1:05 p.m.) — final Cactus League game vs. Rockies at Camelback Ranch
  • March 17-21 — off
  • March 22 (1 a.m. in Los Angeles, 7 p.m. in Sydney) — opening game vs. Diamondbacks in Sydney
  • March 22 (7 p.m. in Los Angeles, 1 p.m. March 23 in Sydney)—game two vs. Diamondbacks in Sydney
  • March 23-26—off
  • March 27 (7:10 p.m.) — exhibition game vs. Angels at Dodger Stadium
  • March 28 (7:10 p.m.) — exhibition game vs. Angels at Dodger Stadium
  • March 29 (6:05 p.m.) — exhibition game vs. Angels at Anaheim
  • March 30 (5:05 p.m.) — regular season game vs. Padres at San Diego
  • March 31 — off
  • April 1 (TBD) — regular-season game vs. Padres at San Diego
  • April 2 (7:10 p.m.) — regular-season game vs. Padres at San Diego
  • April 3 — off
  • April 4 (1:10 p.m.) — home opener vs. Giants at Dodger Stadium

I like that ESPN is showing some love for the Dodgers.  The only thing is we won’t have Vin Scully on the call but since I have the best of both worlds listening to the best Dodger Broadcaster in English, Vin Scully and the best in Spanish with el maestro Jaime Jarrin and the loquacious Pepe Yniguez.  Fernando Valenzuela does some analysis.

No, I am not going to Sydney but I will be listening starting at 1. a.m. on Saturday March 22 and at 7:p.m.  Sounds weird saying that.

Lorena and I in San Diego for Opening Day with the Dodgers.  San Diego is always fun and we get to see our good friend, the big Padre fan, Mike.

Dodgers 2014 Schedule. Where will I go in 2014?

It is going to be a busy year of traveling  for the Dodgers.   The team will open the season in Sydney, Australia, against the Arizona Diamondbacks for a historic series on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23.  Will I go to Australia?   I am not sure yet…

The Dodgers return to the U.S. and play at San Diego Monday, March 31 through Wednesday, April 2.  Yes! I will be in San Diego for the Dodgers second Opening Day on the road.

From the Dodgers Press release:

The Dodgers’ home opener is Friday, April 4 against the San Francisco Giants and the club concludes the regular season at home against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, Sept. 28. American League teams that will visit Los Angeles throughout the 81-game schedule are the Detroit Tigers from April 8-9, the Chicago White Sox from June 2-4, the Cleveland Indians from June 30-July 2 and the rival Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from Aug. 4-5.

Interleague road dates for the Dodgers in 2014 include travel to Minnesota (April 28-May 1), Kansas City (June 23-25 and Detroit (July 8-9). The Dodgers will head to Anaheim for a two-game Freeway Series Aug. 6-7. The Dodgers play a two-game series against Anaheim both at home and on the road as well as a two-game series against Detroit both home and away.

The holiday schedule for the Dodgers has them at home on Easter Sunday (Sunday, April 20 vs. ARI), Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11 vs. SF), Memorial Day (Monday, May 26 vs. CIN) and Father’s Day (Sunday, June 15 vs. ARI).

I have never been to Kansas City and Detroit. Both of those road trips are mid-week.   Then there is the SABR convention that will be held in Houston next year.

Dodgers will play the Cubs in September?  Ok..  It is a four game series starting Thursday 7/18 to Sunday 7/21.   Maybe it is time to go back to Chicago.

One thing about the schedule I am not liking is that the Dodgers will play in San Francisco on Jackie Robinson’s Day.   I thought there was an agreement that the Dodgers will always be at home on Jackie’s Day.   I hope that since this is a tentative schedule, this will changed.

From Koufax to Kershaw: What an Opening Day at Dodger Stadium

What an Opening Day at Dodger Stadium!  All Opening Days are special.  We await them with so much anticipation.  What an Opening act with Sandy Koufax throwing out the first pitch and Orel Hershiser catching him.

We went into Dodger Stadium with big smiles.  We came out still smiling after that incredible Opening game.   I did not even mind the long wait for the shuttle after the game.

Icing on the cake:   I have Clayton Kershaw in my Baseball Fantasy team 🙂   Los Locos Azules play in the TwitterMaffiaLeague.

Opening Week 2012 at Dodger Stadium

Opening Day was a  beautiful day.   As is my  tradition every year, Nancy Bea Cd played in the background while I got ready to go to Dodger Stadium.   I drove to Union Station and hopped on the shuttle from there.   My brother Vic and  took the first shuttle at 9:45 AM.  We got to Dodger Stadium at 10 AM.  Game time was 1:10 PM.   I heard of other people driving or taking the shuttle late and it took them an hour to get there from downtown.  While waiting for the shuttle I heard about Vin Scully not being able to make it to the stadium.

Get well Vin Scully!   We Love you!!

I had seen Vin Scully in San Diego and he looked good there but those colds cn sneak up on you.  When I ran into him I told him “Good to see you Vin!”  He looked back, smiled and said “Good to see you too!”   I did not want to bother him so I did not ask for autograph or a picture.  He responding to me was good enough for me.

Back to Opening Day!   I took out my brand new scorebook and started keeping score.  One thing I don’t like about it, is it does not have the little squares to keep track of balls and strikes but I sneak them in there.    My outfit for Opening Day was one that I wore in San Diego -The Magic Johnson yellow shirt with my #32 Sandy Koufax white jersey over it.  They both wore #32.  The only thing with the shirt is that is the same color as the Pirates.

Picture from the LA Times.  Nice man to my right with the grey Clayton Kershaw jersey.   He liked that I was keeping score.  He wrote the name of my blog.

Dodger Stadium celebrating 50 years on its inagural day of April 10, 1962 had members of that year being honored.  It would have been great for Vin Scully to introduce them as Opening Day has been the only day that Vin Scully addresses the crowd at the stadium.   Pic by Jon SooHoo.

Our lefty Clayton Kershaw went seven strong innings.  He left with no decision.    @Skinnyswag_  Dee Gordon continues making the games excting.     I love this team!  Pic by Jon SooHoo

Andre Ethier in his 30th birthday hit a homerun to right field!  in the 8th.  Kenley Jansen pitched the 8th and Javy in the 9th for the save!   Did I say that I love this team?   Pic byLa Times.

Dodgers celebrating the win on Opening Day!

Chad Billingsley pitched the second game.  He had another great game and another win.

Dodgers going for the sweep tonight   30% chance of rain with those chances increasing into the night BUT It can’t rain.   It never rains in Calfiornia.  haha.   Just in case, I got my raincoat.  Go Dodgers!
