I like that ESPN is showing some love for the Dodgers.  The only thing is we won’t have Vin Scully on the call but since I have the best of both worlds listening to the best Dodger Broadcaster in English, Vin Scully and the best in Spanish with el maestro Jaime Jarrin and the loquacious Pepe Yniguez.  Fernando Valenzuela does some analysis.

No, I am not going to Sydney but I will be listening starting at 1. a.m. on Saturday March 22 and at 7:p.m.  Sounds weird saying that.

Lorena and I in San Diego for Opening Day with the Dodgers.  San Diego is always fun and we get to see our good friend, the big Padre fan, Mike.

Great Dodger History: September 18, 2006

I did not have my blog back in 2006 but I had a draft email that I think I sent to a friend back then. What a great Dodger day September 18, 2006 was! Here is what I wrote back then:

I was at the game on 9/18/06 and no freaking way I am using my tickets to get Hooter’s hot wings! I already wrote on my tix what happened and put it away. I am saving my blankets that we got to commemorate that day! I stayed for the entire game on Saturday so there was no way I was leaving until the last out on Monday. Many people in our top deck section also stayed but there were those that gave up and left. Two of those guys came back to watch the 10th innings! they were in their car listening and hurried back in. It as so sweeeet. some of us were going down the aisle hugging and hi-fiving!

I always keep score and at the end of the 9th inning when the score was 9 -5, after I recorded the last out of the Padres I put a #$%@%$ in the next square down out of frustration. I wanted to curse but there was this 3 year old cute girl that comes with her parents. She loves to hi-five! Anyway, I moved to the last row where my friend Lorena sits and there were these three Padre fans standing in the back. They were saying that probably they were going to miss their train back to SD, but that now that Hoffman was coming to the game, it was over. I turned around and told them “remember what happened in the All-Star game” They reminded me of what Hoffman has done against the Dodgers. They could not freaking believe what happened afterwards! When I was Hi-fiving everyone I was also doing it to them and they went along. They also said they had not seen anything like that.

When Nomar came to bat, they were saying “here comes the rally killer, is over now.” I was yelling “C’mon Nomah…. I believe in you!! “Hit one out for the Ravines (My baseball fantasy team)! It was unbelievable the atmosphere! I along with other fans were going down the aisles hi-fiving and hugging those that I see day in and day out! We stayed and watch all the highlights! When I walked out of the stadium, everyone was going crazy honking their horns everywhere! having their windows down and yelling! Unbelievable!

Oh, yeah while I was walking to my car, I noticed Linda (SDDodger) had left me a message. I called her back and left her a message and let her listen to all the noise, the honks, the noise people were making as they were heading out of the park. I got home and watched the entire replay and taped it. I dozed off during Russell’s Homerun but that is OK, I watched the highlights this morning on ESPN. Did not get many hours of sleep but I’ll be at the stadium again tonight.

Go Dodgers!!! Oh yeah,,,, for those that might want to chat with Nomah, he will be on-line at 2PM today. Got a meeting at that time, but I’ll read later on what he and others had to say. Now, better get some work done.

Another thing, what was up with Peavy!? Was he yelling at Piazza? something about “that was a fastball” IF that is so, you don’t disrespect your catcher. punk. Don’t know what was up with him and Mariano also but I like the way the boys in blue came out ready to rumble!

Happy birthday to my Padre fan friend Mike Egan! Have a wonderful day! I love that this anniversary of 9/18/2006 happened on your birthday! Thanks for being a great friend and see you in San Diego this weekend!Iphone 1322

Dodgers Last Road Series: San Diego

The Dodgers are going into San Diego with a 3-3 road trip record in this their final road trip.   They saw the Nationals and the Reds celebrate winning their division.    I believe this is the first time that I am on the road seeing another team celebrating.

Josh Becket starts tonight against Volquez.

I am not going to this series  but is very tempting to jump into my car and head to San Diego>

Friday 9/28:

The Friday night fireworks will be set to the music of Frank Sinatra.   Dodgers will be celebrating Tommy Lasorda and Sweet Lou’s birthday which was September 22nd.

Saturday 9/29:

Happy 50th Baseball  Anniversary Manuel Jeronimo Mota!

Saturday is the Gran Fiesta.  The final Viva Los Dodgers.     The game time  has been changed to 6:10 pm.   The Gran Fiesta will start four hours before.     Also Pepe Yniguez told me that Manny Mota will be honored for his 50 year Baseball Anniversary!   Felicidades Manny!   Te queremos mucho!

It seems not long ago that picture was taken but it was Spring Training when you can see Manny Mota riding his bike.

Sunday 9/30

Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday.  For those traveling down the 405 Freeway, don’t forget is Carmageddon weekend.

Dodgers close the regular season with three games with the Giants starting Monday.  Wednesday’s game has a rare start of 4:15 pm.

Dodgers and Cards battle it out at Dodger Stadium for Four

I have not had time to post here and after the Dodgers performance, I was a little frustrated.

Dodgers lost the two game series with the Diamond Backs at Arizona.  Now they are back at Dodger Stadium but they have not played well at home!   Well, they have not play well on the road either but the home record is worst.

Something got to give since The Cardinals have not done well either.  They got swept by the Padres!   The Padres are playing very well.

Somebody got to score starting tonight!   I was telling a friend at work “The Dodgers can’t score even with  pockets  full of bills in a whorehouse”   haha can I say that here?

I love my Cardinal fan friends but I hope your team goes down tonight! DFW 003.jpg

I wonder if Cardinal girl is going to any of the games.

Let’s Go Dodgers Let’s Go!

*clap clap*

I am heading to the stadium soon!  It is Blanket night although is hot here in the Southland.

Josh Becket faces Lynn.

EXTRA EXTRA!   The Cool -A Coo’s are back at Dodger Stadium!   That can cool me off!

Cool-A-Coo picture from  LA Times .

p.s.  I am excited about the Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium on Saturday!

Adrian Gonzales Walk-off Double and now Padres are in Town

What a great win on Sunday!   Adrian Gonzales had struck out twice against the Diamond Backs.  He got lucky in the 7th inning when the baseball gods smiled when Young lost the ball in the sun.  BUT in the 9th inning he came thru with a clean double scoring Mark Ellis and Shane Victorino!

Belisario got the win!   Today Padres sent Werner and the Dodgers will send Blanton.

I ended the night by meeting up with Natalie and Charlie who are visiting from Chicago.  They have been here since Vin Scully night.  Natalie is a long time Dodger fan while her husband Charlie is a Cubs fans.

I finally got to meet Andrew.  He sang “The Boys of Summer”   Natalie did a great job too singing.   Have a nice trip Natalie & Charlie.  See you in Cincinnati!

Happy Labor Day!   $1 Dodger dogs at Dodger Stadium today!  Game at 5:10 p.m.

25 game hitting streak for Andre Ethier

Dodgers came home to the Ravine for a six game home series against the Padres and Cubs after going .500 on the road. They came back with a record of 13 wins and 13 losses for the year and it would have been a loss had Tony Gwynn Jr not saved Broxton’s bacon with a fantastic catch in the outfield.

Where Broxton has been frustrating the fans, Andre has been a hitting machine with his 25 game hitting streak. Thought the hardest would have been last night’s Padre lefty pitcher Richards. Congratulations Andre! We’ll be at the Ravine cheering on your streak!

April 29 game Dodgers Padres 003.jpg

Hey I noticed the middle sign has changed from Trader Joes to Universal Studios. Here you can see it better with Pau Gasol giving us the Dodgers Code of Conduct.
Pau Gasol, .jpg

From the last homestand of the throwback game with the Braves, the sign had Trader Joes in the middle.

Another throwback game coming up Wednesday with the Cubs. Curious to see the Cubs throwback uniform. In the meantime, is Kuroda on the mound tonight. Go Dodgers! Go Andre!

Pictures from Petco Park 4/9/11

Greetings from San Diego!
We got two games for the price of one! the Friday suspended game, a 2-2 tie, picked up from the 9th inning with Matt Kemp on base and no outs. Final score: Dodgers 4, Padres 2 in the 11th. W: Hawksworth (1-0) L: Frieri (0-1) SV: Broxton (4)

After a delay of 25 minutes, the second game started. Kuroda san was magnificient shutting down the Padres for 8 and 2/3 innings. Tony Wynn had a big night too.

Happy birthday to Andre Ethier who turns 29 today!

There is more, but got to check out of the hotel, move the car and head to the game! Go Dodgers! Go Ely! going for the sweep!

Leave it to the Dodgers.

The first inning looked promising with seven pitches given by Kuroda-san with the three outs being handled by the second baseman.

Three consecutive hits by the Dodgers and you would think the Dodgers would have scored but no, like Vin Scully  said “Leave it to the Dodgers”.

Vin was very encouraging in the first inning saying that no lead is safe in August.  He pointed out that in August of 1951, the Dodgers lead the pennant by 13 1/2 and lost it.    He sited 1964 when the Phillies lead the pennant by 6 1/2 games in September and it got away!  On August 23, 1942 the Dodgers led by 7.5 and lost it.   Vin made me feel much better but as the game progressed and Vin left me (he only does the first three inning), I felt despair watching the Dodgers out-hit  the Padres and lose the game.

Yes, Kemp had a running blunder when he should have scored on the third hit.  He ended up going 5/5 short of a triple for the cycle.    He apologized after the game that he should have run faster.  I accept his apology and I believe he will not do it again.   I forgive Kemp because he admitted his mistake and as the saying goes “To err is human, to forgive is divine.”

The pitching plus two errors gave up 10 runs with Weaver giving up five runs.  With the two errors last night, the Dodgers now have 77 to the Padres 44.

Remember my post He Pitched a perfect game, I get a perfect ball?    Well, for one reason or another it had to be postponed but I finally get my baseball signed by Joe Torre and Sandy Koufax tomorrow night!   I am super excited!   Also in addition I and a guest get to watch BP ON THE FIELD!     My friend Lorena and I will be there early!   I can’t wait!

From 22 year old Kershaw to 22 year old Kenley Jansen

A year ago Kenley Jansen was in the minor league catching.   Seeing his arm was better throwing fastballs than catching them, he was converted to a pitcher.   I actually went and pitcked him up in my MLB Fantasy team (Los Locos Azules)   but ESPN still has him as a catcher.

Kenley Jansen 1.jpg

In the dugout with a big grin on his face, Clayton Kershaw was watching Kensley who had come in the 9th inning to save the game for Kershaw who had pitched 8 shutout innings.

The kid Kensley looked calm on the mound.  I on the other hand was nervous.  Kensley had made his major league debut the night before when the Dodgers used nine pitchers in the 13 inning game.

Kensley was going to face the 4th, 5th and 6th batters, of

Kenley Jansen 2.jpg

Here is the video I recorded:

Bay          K

Davis.       K

Kershaw came out and gave him a big hug.  See, when Kershaw was in the Gulf Coast league, Kensley Jansen was his catcher.  “He had an incredible arm back then”  kershaw said.

Dodgers WIN!   and take the series against the Mets 3 games to 1.

Here is the post game interview with Kenley Jansen:

Dodgers are off today and start a three game series with the first place Padres.  Go Dodgers!

Len who I baptised “crazy Mets fan” came from San Diego to watch the game.  He sat in the right field pavilion for the AYCE (All you can eat).  I caught with him before the game and after the game.  This is after the game when the kids were allowed to run the bases.   Afterwards the Media softball game started.

Update:  I uploaded the videos.  Also ESPN has updated Kenley from a catcher to a relief pitcher!

Dodgers Sweep the Padres! How Sweeeet it is!

The scores for the Dodgers Padres games were:

Friday:     4-3,   Win:  Jeff Weaver, Save: Broxton

Saturday:  4-1.  Win:  Kershaw, Save:  Broxton.

Sunday:    1-0    Win: Billingsley, Save: Broxton.

And that was a win and THREE saves for my fantasy baseball the Locos Azules.   I beat out Rays’ Renegades’s team this week!  Woohoo!

Ok, here are some pics from SD.   This is from the hotel:

Friend Linda altered her Beat LA t-shirt.  She moved the LA and SD so it became “LA Beat SD”.  I love it Linda!

Saw this picture when watching the replay of the game.  Here is Elisa, Lorena and I on Sunday while Adrian Gonzales is walking back after striking out.  We are infront of the the two Dodger fans walking.

Here is the little broom I took Sunday.  Is really smaller than it looks in the pic from my phone.

Andre Update: Andre Ethier had a splint placed on his broken right little finger Sunday.  Ethier broke Saturday night in batting practice. Ethier explained that the finger “contorted” under the knob of the bat during a swing and the pressure of the bat cracked the first knuckle.   Get well Andre!
