Dodgers Sweep the Rockies. I am just waiting for Monday.
Dodgers Sweep!
Dodgers sweep the Rockies! Is so good to be seeing the Boys in Blue playing well! Now the Giants come to town starting tomorrow but before the game…
I am just waiting for Monday.
A few years back I went on a Dodger road trip to Phoenix. All decked in Dodger blue, my friend Erik and I were having having lunch at the Cheesecake Factory The waitress asked us if were going to the Dodger game. We said yes and she said “I am just waiting for Monday”
She came back with our drinks and starts talking about being a Cubs fan, about the Cubs in town starting Monday and having tickets for Monday’s game. After she left, Erik says “I thought she was talking about Rick Monday” I tell him “Mee too!” and we started laughing.
It was an inside joke for us. We would drop the “Iam just waiting for Monday” and we would start laughing
So why am I saying “I am just waiting for Monday!’ Ben Platts of MLB will interview me for the MLB Blogs! Is going to be a video interview.
Bobby Castillo back at Dodger Stadium!
I was glad to see Bobby Castillo back at Dodger Stadium! He had suffered a stroke back in May and had been recuperating.
Bobby threw out the first pictch on Saturday
and Fernando Caught him
Manny Mota also threw out the first pitch on Saturday \

The Gran Fiesta: Viva Los Dodgers Review. Dodgers Fan Appreciation Day
La Gran Fiesta: Viva Los Dodgers
The Gran fiesta at Dodger Stadium was so crowded and a little disorganized. Maybe the Dodgers were not expecting that many people. They need to expand the area to accommodate the larger crowds. The lines to get in were extremely long. They checked your bags and checked that you had a ticket to the game. After you got in you had to get in line for the autographs. The lines for Cochito Cruz and Adrian Gonzales were unbelievable long. They spilled way outside. The problem was fans that were parking were just getting in line there. The security guards were not noticing that. Also I don’t understand how when we were in line outside before 1:30 at the gates by the Pasadena Freeway entrance, by the time we got out of the car the line to get in into La Gran Fiesta, the line circled around! There were also some regular fans while we were closer to get in that their bags got checked and they let them get in right away.
There should have been a special line for Season Ticket holders. For us that support the team all year around. My friends and I (all of us season ticket holders) never made it to get Cochito Cruz or Adrian Gonzales. By the time we got to the table, there was someone else there. Fans were asking me who he was. It was joe Moeller. Later on someone asked me who were at the other tables. I know fans should know but you had some fairly new fans, fans that is their first time doing that. Maybe the Dodgers should have had large name tags made on the computer explaining who were sitting at the tables.
I did see Pepe Yniguez. Jessica Rosales took this picture where Kenny Landreaux and Pepe were signing. Thanks Jessica! I also got Manny Mota and I showed him his picture when he was with the Houston Colts 45’s organization. Picture posted in prior blog post.

Dodgers win consecutive game with another shutout.
Dodgers won against the Rockies on Friday 8-0 with a great performance by Clayton Kershaw. Blanton pitched a shutout on Saturday with the score of 3-0. Can the Dodgers pitch another shutout? TrublueLa, Eric Stephen said that the last time the Dodgers had a shutout sweep of 3+ games was 1966, a 4-game series against the Astros. Bob Timmermann followed my question of “was this at home or on the road” with “It was at home. Osteen and Koufax had shutouts and the other two were combined efforts” Awesome! I love these two with all their knowledge!
I settle for a win today no matter the score. Is amazing how many players hurt the Rockies have. I have not looked at the records but Dodgers don’t do well on day games so like I said I just want the W. Go Dodgers!
Fan Appreciation Day
Is Fan Appreciation Day. Among the prizes are a one year lease on a car. It used to be that they gave you the car. Also there are the two season tickets. The only thing I have won thru all the years I have attended Fan Appreciation Day was a voucher for Panda Express.
I am just waiting for Monday.
I will explain that in my next post, but I am really excited and a little nervous about this so yes, I am just waiting for Monday! In the meantime I need to head to the stadium! Running late so no pictures until my next post.
Dodgers for Lunch on Getaway Day. Please don’t get swept
Dodgers for Lunch on Getaway Day at Coors Field. Please do not get swept!
I ‘ve been so busy today that I forgot the game started early on Getaway day. Oh I so hope the Dodgers don’t get swept by the Rockies. You never know what can happen at Coors Field.
The record of the Dodgers sweeping and getting swept stands at:
Dodgers | Have Swept | Gotten Swept |
At Dodger Stadium | Pirates, Padres, Rockies, Cardinals, cubs | Brewers, Diamond Backs Giants |
Away | Phillies, Mets, Giants | Giants, Athletics |
Dodgers lost the first game 10-0 Beckett gave up three runs. Second game Dodgers lost to the Rockes by the score of 8-2.
In this 3rd game, I See You Hanley Ramirez hits a two run blast! Dodgers leading the 3rd game 6-0 !! Dylan Hernandez, LA Times Dodger beat writer, had reported after two innings that Drew Pomeranz had a perfect game thorugh two innings. Thanks Dylan for breaking it! 😉 Blanton is enjoying this bouquet of runs.
LA Times in Sports with Stan Kasten -Event
A big thank you to my friend Lorena for inviting me to this event: Times in Sports with Stan Kasten. The event is at Dodger Stadium today August 29, 2012 at 7:p.m.
The event will feature a live Q & A with new Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten, moderated by Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times, largely driven by questions that were submitted earlier but questions can also be submitted during the Q & A on twitter, using the hashtag #timesinsports.
Stan Kasten with Vin Scully
Reminder: Tomorrow is Vin Scully bobblehead!
Get to Dodger Stadium early!! is going to be a busy day tomorrow with Vin Scully bobblehead.
10 Days till Dodgers Opening Day at Petco Park!
10 days till Dodgers Opening Day at Petco Park! Also 10 days till I take vacation! Yes! I will be in San Diego for the four game series. The Dodger schedule works perfect with a four game series, followed by a day off on Monday then Opening Day at Dodger Stadium so Clayton Kershaw gets to pitch both Opening Days!
10 days. Hall of Famers that wore # 10 and they have had their number retired are : Sparky Anderson, Phil Rizzuto, Andre Dawson & Ron Santo.
I was listening to Jaime Jarrin and Pepe Yniguez broadcasting the Dodger game on Sunday. It was odd that there was no English transmission. Anyway, Pepe mentioned that Ron Santo never saw a no hitter. Pepe also mentioned that he has never seen a no-hitter. Neither have I. I have seen them on TV but never in person.
As I was going thru the retired numbers per team, I noticed that Seattle and Colorado are the only teams that have never retired a number. Both teams have numbers out of circulations like #24 Ken Griffey Jr. and #14 Lou Piniella. For The Rockies, no one has worn Larry Walker’s #33, but probably #17 Todd Helton will be the first number retired for the Rockies.
P.S. After a year in hiatus, I am back to playing Fantasy baseball! So my team, Los Locos Azules are back!! I drafted last but I am happy with my team. Here is what I have:
C Carlos Santana, 1B Joey Votto, 2B Howie Kendrick, 3B Aramis Ramirez, SS Dee Gordon, OF Jacoby Ellsbury, OF Emilio Bonifacio, PF Yoenis Cespedes, Util Alex Rios, Util Adam Dunn, BN Ryan Howard, BN Paul Goldschmidt, BN Jason Bay, BN Chase Utley. SP Zach Greinke, SP James Shields, RP Craig Kimbrel , RP Heith Bell, P Brandom Morrow, P Kenley Jansen, P Francisco Liriano, P Brandom McCarthy, BN Jonathan Broxton.
Two out of Three from the Rockies. Here come the Reds!
Dodgers took two out of three from the Rockies losing the one where Octavio Dotel was so wild in the 10th inning that he had three wild pitches. Pirate fans: Has Dotel always been this wild?
Ted Lilly on the hand pitched a complete two hit shutout game on Thursday giving the bullpen much needed rest and us fans a relief.
I took this picture at the end of the game.
Tonight is 90’s night with an Andre Ethier poster night giveaway. Tonight is also “Take the jersey off their back” night and player baskets will also be auctioned!
Homer Bailey is on the mound against Monasterios. Don’t you just love the name Homer Bailey? Originally Padilla was supposed to be on the mound but he is going on the injured list. I was looking forward to seeing the “Soap Bubble” pitch or like Padilla calls it “Curvita Suave.” Que te mejores Vicente!
Here are some pictures from Dodger Stadium taken by me or brother Vic.
It was Matt Kemp’s bobblehead on Tuesday. OK, so I went a little beyond centerfield when I tried to position Kemp’s bbh. . Just think like he is jumping the fence to catch the ball.
I took a picture of Loney’s bbh too. Now, I did positioned him right on first base!
The Deuce is Loose dancing before the 9th inning!
the view of the sunset from the Top Deck:
The birthday girl on Wednesday. Too bad the Dodgers did not give her a win but she’ll take two out of three.
A view of downtown from one corner of the Top Deck
Here is season ticket holder Gilbert surounded by four FIVE of his little neighbors that he brought to the game on Wednesday. Every once in a while he brings them. They are very nice kids!
Dodgers Rockies Rubber Game for Lunch!
The Colorado Rockies took the first game as the Dodger bullpen came up short in the first game and today I learned why Joe Torre did not bring George Sherrill in the 10th inning of that game. Sherrill felt tightness in his right side earlier that day. MRI came out negative!
Our stopper:
In the second game, Randy Wolf got his fourth consecutive win giving up one run in 7 1/3 inning to give the Rockies only their second loss in the last games! That was also Randy’s #99 win! Let’s hope he gets #100 in his next start!
Congratulations to Andre Ethier who hit homerun #26 and #27! Also congratulations James Loney who finally got #8!
Today’s
isn’t this cute the rubber statue?
Rubber game (I’d love to have that rubber figure) is an early one. Vicente Padilla gets his start against Jorge de La Rosa. I just learned that Vicente is from Nicaragua. He is the first Nicaraguan to start for the Dodgers!
Behave Vicente and have a good game! I wonder if I can have my headphones on while I go to my Pilates class at noon.
Quick Trivia I heard during last night’s game : Name the only three teams that have never had a player hit for the cycle?
Dodgers at Coors Field with the Rockies 3 games back
Critical games in Colorado for both teams. With the Dodgers leading the NL West by 3 games and the Rockies leading the Wild Card, this is really a penant race. is time for the Dodgers to put more ground between them and the Rockies.
Dodgers get to visit their old manager Jim Tracy. Jim managed the Dodgers from 2001 to 2005 and won a division title in 2004.
Only four current Dodgers played for Tracy — Weaver, Guillermo Mota, Jonathan Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo. The latter two played for Tracy only in brief callups.
Going to the Rockies website, I found this
The Rockies’ fans’ feelings for the Dodgers certainly are strong. After the Rockies’ improbable 14-inning, 6-4 victory over the Giants — brought home by Ryan Spilborghs’ grand slam — fans broke into a heartfelt “Beat L.A.” chant. The Rockies enter Tuesday’s opener of a three-game showdown trailing the Dodgers by three games in the National League West. The Rockies have a four-game cushion in the Wild Card standings.
What is the obsession of teams emphasizing the other team instead of their own team? I know, I know, everyone wants to beat L.A. I like Oldbrooklynfan (some might remember him from the article written about him making his first trip to Dodger Stadium) from the ITD blog where he changed that to say Beaten by L.A.
Upcoming Game (08/25)
-
Clayton Kershaw 8-7
-
Jason Hammel 8-7
The 9-foot, 6-inch tall statue is entitled “The Player.” it was donated by the Rotary club of Denver. It’s the same figure that it awarded, in a much smaller size, to the recipient of the Branch Rickey Award, which honors the Major League player who best exemplifies the Rotary’s motto of “service over self.”
The nominees from each team for 2009 have already been announced. You can check them and also past winners here >>.
