It has been a while since I have updated my blog. I got the Hilda award from the Baseball Reliquary since then. I still got to post about that and then there was the trip to the SABR convention in Philadelphia. That was so much fun that I am ready for the next convention in Houston.
I was telling myself “I should post today before I return to Dodger Stadium” when I received email of Mark Newman’s latest blog post http://mlblogs.mlblogs.com/2013/08/09/what-are-you-waiting-for/ He titled it “Baseball Dreams: One fan’s ultimate wish list” He listed all he is waiting for then asked us ‘What are we waiting for?”
Apparently I was waiting for Mark so here goes.
On this Friday, after the Dodgers last road trip of 7-1, I am waiting for their return! I am waiting to see my boys against the Rays! I am waiting to see Dodger Stadium again, my home away from home. I am waiting to applaud my beloved Dodgers for a job well done on road.
I am waiting to hear Nancy Bea at the organ. I am waiting to hear el locuaz Pepe Yniguez, Fernando Valenzuela and el Maestro Jaime Jarrin who will be a grand marshal at the Ecuadorian parade on Sunday that will end at Olvera Street.
I am waiting for the clock to say 4 p.m. so that I can leave work and head to Dodger Stadium.
I am waiting to see Tony Jackson return today to cover the Dodgers. He no longer has the long hair.
I am waiting to see the ushers like Burnie, Cynthia, Raissa, JD, Margarita, Ernest, Leonard, Valerie and so many more. I am waiting to see Loui to see if we are still going to go see Howie sing Jazzsinatra songs next Friday night.
I am waiting to see my friends at OLOCR (Our Lady of Chavez Ravine) I am waiting to see my friend Lorena!. I am waiting to meet Tom Jackson who is making a trip to Dodger Stadium with his teenage daughters and his girlfriend.
I am waiting to see Jon SooHoo, Jill, Juan, Jessica, Polo. I am waiting to see my other boys in Blue that no longer play the game but still work for the Dodgers.
I am waiting to hear Adrian’s Gonzalez’s at bat song “El Mariachi Loco” so that Alan, Marta and any other friends around us can dance along. We believe it helps Adrian bat better 😉
I am waiting to see more sunsets at Dodger Stadium.
I am waiting to see Vin Scully and wish him a good night. I am waiting for him to waive back and say in that so familiar tone “Good night”
I am waiting for the Think Cure weekend at Dodger Stadium and see what they have on the auction to help this great cause for the research of Cancer at City of Hope.
I am waiting for another road trip, this time to San Diego for the last Dodger games. It is always a lot of fun to go see the Dodgers in San Diego. I am waiting to see Ryu and Puig in their rookie hazing outfits.
I am waiting for October and playoffs. It has been a while since we have seen the Dodgers in playoff games. It has been longer (25 years) since we have seen them in a World Series.
It is a great time for Baseball for a lot of us fans with the Pirates playing well and in first place. The Tigers and the Braves with a 10 game winning streak. The Dodgers 8-2 in the last 10 games. The Rangers 9-1 in the last 10 and going neck in neck with the Oakland A’s.
I am waiting for a fun October!
I have been so busy lately that I have not updated my blog. I still need to upload the pictures from the Baseball Reliquary Induction Day. What an AWESOME day that was but first let’s get back to the Dodgers!
WOW!! They have won six in a row sweeping the Nationals and the Toronto Blue Jays! They scored 47 runs in those six games while giving up 22 runs.
The Dodgers were 9.5 games back June 22 and in 1st place July 22. Sixth team since 1969 to go from 9.5 back to 1st in 30 days.
They have gone from being in last place on June 22nd to first place by 1.5 games!
In the tradition of Walter O’Malley, Ice Cream for everyone!
The Dodgers arrived at LAX today about 3:45 a.m. Both Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez were tweeing when they landed at LAX. Why do they schedule night games like that on Getaway day when the team has a game the following day?
Tonight the Dodgers (53-47) start the homestand with the Cincinnati Reds (58-44)
Tonight is also Vin Scully bobblehead night! Naturally, the game is sold out.
Since is Throwback Thursday, the Dodgers posted this picture of a young Vin Scully.
Here how the bobblehead for tonight looks like:
I can’t wait to be back at OLOCR, Our Lady of Chavez Ravine!
The Boys are back in town! The Boys are back in town!!!!
The matchup: Latos 9-3 3.53 ERA against Greinke 8-2 3.36 ERA.
I know this is old but I still would like to put it here. The video where Vin Scully interviews Sandy Koufax is a classic!
Besides, Mark our fearless leaders here at the MLB Blogsphere reminded us that we can post videos here. I keep forgetting that so Mark, I am listening to you. Let’s see if this works
Vin Scully interviewing Sandy Koufax.
Yes! it works!
Unfortunately Sandy was only at Camelback Ranch for 10 days. He will return to the team in June.
I have been very busy at work and I am dying to go back to Camelback Ranch. Not sure if I will go back but if not, there are 25 days till Opening Day! Counting the days.
My boss is going on vacation for a week and a day starting tomorrow. When I asked him where he was going he said “Arizona” 😦 Is OK, listening to the games and pictures from JonSooHoo I can wait till the boys come home.
Vin Scully is back ~
is going to be AWESOME ~
Watch out for those quotes!
the Dodger family is complete with Sandy Koufax and now Vin Scully at Camelback!
Welcome back Vin!
Like Hilda Chester used to tell you
VIN SCULLY I LOVE YOU!
Dodgers against the Cubs at Camelback Ranch! Wish I was there.
Billingsley starts against Barney.
I am skipping my Pilates class at noon (we have classes at work at noon Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) to listen to the game.
Vin Scully quote about Billinglsey giving out already a single, a home run and two doubles “Sure, you hate to be lather…”
Juan Uribe is the first baseman for this game.
Mike Piazza is at Camelback Ranch. DylanHearnandez reported that Mike said of Vin Scully: “I’d love to see him” I hope to apologize.
So since I already had the book I decided to go to the Mike Piazza signing. I drove to work so that I could start work earlier and get out earlier. I told my boss before I left that if I did not show up on Thursday is because I might be in jail. haha.
I found Cindy and her husband were the first two people in line in letter. I don’t know how far the letters went but I saw the group for D. I was probably the 10th person in line for letter A. When I got there I think there were about 50 people there.
I waited until Mike signed my book.
Then I leaned over and told him “Maybe you were misunderstood in the book, but I think you should apologize to Vin Scully”
He listened to me and he said “oh… It wasn’t bad” I wished that Mike would have elaborated but by this time, I already had to move. There was this big guy to my left there making sure the people were moving right after they signed the book.
I do collect baseball books. I ordered them online, or buy them from SABR, at bookstores, thrift stores or at Friends of the Library bookstores. I do need another bookshelf.
Back to taking the train tomorrow. I do prefer to take the train than to drive to work. It also gives me a chance to do some reading.
Did Mike Piazza actually see the so-called “Crushing” video?
If he did not, he should have. Here is the link to the video that I have seen a few times:
If he has barely seen it recently, he should apologize to Vin Scully while he is in the Los Angeles area today for the signing of his book. I hope is not a long shot that he will apologize.
Yes, today is Mike Piazza’s book signing at Vroman’s in Pasadena (the one on Colorado, not the one at the Hasting Ranch).
I bought the book before knowing Mike Piazza slammed Vin Scully in the book. Would I have bought the book had I known about this? Most likely not. But since I did, I did go to the index and read everything he had to say about our beloved Vin.
Here is part of what Mike said in the book:
“He wasn’t happy about it. And Scully’s voice carried a great deal of authority in Los Angeles…The way the whole contract drama looked to them (the fans) — many of whom were taking their cue from Scully — was that, by setting a deadline and insisting on so much money, I was demonstrating a conspicuous lack of loyalty to the ball club. I understood that.”
Mike also says that as he started the season poorly “Vin Scully was crushing me” Did someone else tell him this? because he was playing so he could not hear Vin. As we know, Vin does not talk poorly about another player, he reports on what goes on the field and makes the game more enjoyable giving us anecdotes and some statistics. He paints beautiful poetry broadcasting the game. Mike just sounds paranoid about Vin Scully and Dodger fans.
Here is part of what Vin says in the video from Vero Beach:
“We’re visiting with Mike Piazza, and I’m sure neither one of us would like to talk about it, and yet the millions of people out there watching are interested in it, it is a big story, so consequently we have to address it. And that is, you’re down here, playing out the last year of your contract, coming up hopefully for you will be a multi-year multi-million dollar contract. Is that on your mind?”
Vin Scully in the interview gives Mike a chance to say something like “This is not an ultimatum” but Mike accepts it and so it goes.
When the LA Times asked Vin about what Mike said, Vin responded with “”As God is my judge, I don’t get involved in these things,” I can’t imagine I would ever put my toe in the water as far as a player and his negotiations”
Mike: If you would apologize to Vin Scully, I might forgive you and maybe so would many Dodger fans and Baseball fans.
February 13, is my fourth blogging anniversary. Yes, it was four years ago, a day before Valentine’s Day that I decided to start a blog. Four years later and 500+ blog posts, I am still here learning and blogging.
I have never tried before to write haikus but I decided to read about them and attempt to write some so here are three
