SABR #42 in Minneapolis

One of the best things about SABR is meeting with friends you have made thru SABR. After meeting Abby and Kent last year at SABR41 in Long Beach, you would always see the three of us together. The three of us said we would keep in touch with each other. Less than a month later, Abby emailed us about a SABR/Baseball Prospectus event at Citi Field. Kent could not make the trip in August but I did. In addition to seeing Citi Field, Abby and I went to watch a Cyclone game.

Kent is a Dodger fan and a Red Sox fan. Abby is a Yankee fan and you all know I bleed Dodger Blue.

I was remembering that last year Kent wanted to try his first In-N-Out burger. Well, he asked the front desk how far was the closest In-N-Out. The shuttle did not make it that far so we took a taxi. Because we did not want to miss the next session, we had the taxi go thru the drive thru. We quickly ate at the hotel and headed to the next session.

The following day as the bus tour was heading to Lake Elsinore where we were going to catch the Storms against the Rawhides, I looked out the window and saw an In & Out place, I suddenly remembered that I had my car parked at the hotel! I turned to Kent and told him that I had remembered about my car a day late. I remember the taxi was not cheap. Funny I can remember baseball facts but had completely forgotten about my car.

I did not need a car in Minneapolis. I had been there the year before when the Dodgers played there 6/27/11 to 6/29/11. Both Abby and I arrived in Minneapolis in time to take the library tour and the tour of downtown that Brenda was given. This library has a piano! I love libraries!

To be continue… Pictures coming.

Don’t Miss the Big One!

Don’t miss the big what?  The 41st Annual Convention 2011!   This time is in Southern California.  July 6th to July 10.

There is plenty to do at the convention in Long Beach!  Check out the presenters and the convention activities at http://sabr.org.

This will be my first time attending a SABR convention.  I really wanted to go last year to Atlanta but I could not work it out into my schedule.  But this time being so close to home, I am there!

I am also looking forward to meeting more members of SABR and going to the Dodger game on Friday night and the Angel game on Saturday.   Also the tour of historical Southern California ballparks sites, including Wrigley Field, The Los Angeles Coliseum, Gilmore Field, Washington Park and the Vernon ballpark.

I am not sure if I can make it to see the Visalia Rawhide at Lake Elsinore.  I never been there.   Did you know that Tom and his cousin Kevin O’Malley own the team?   Tom’s grandfather was the legendary Walter O’Malley,

Check it out!  Don’t miss the big one!   The price is very reasonable, more so if you are a member.

Scott Boras at the SABR 2011 Conference and the Winter Meetings

SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) 2011 Conference.

I went my first SABR meeting last Saturday with the purpose of volunteering . There were 15 guys at the meeting and me.

Anyway, I found out that Scott Boras will be one of the speakers Also Arte Moreno for the Angels and THE speaker from the Dodgers is still pending. The player speakers will be announced at a later date.

The Dodgers and Angels are in town so the Dodger game that we will be attending from the conference will be Thursday July 7th when the Dodgers play the Mets.   This is also Andre Ethier Bobblehead night so It will be a popular night.  The Angel game will be on Saturday against the Mariners.  There will be much more added to the conference.  In the meantime,

Hot Stove and Winter Meetings

Don’t you just love all the Hot Stove trade rumors coming out of the 2010 Winter Meetings?  My head spins on one direction then another with all the rumors.   Are the Dodgers going after a left fielder or Prince Fielder?

In the meantime the Dodgers have signed Vicente Padilla for 2 Million.   I like this signing at this price.  Padilla must like it here in LA.

Note also that SABR will be at booth #1907 during the Baseball Trade Show at the Winter Meetings, December 6-8.

The McCourt divorce.

And just to make things more …..interesting for the Dodgers, the judge has ruled in favor of Jaime McCourt so she owns 50% of the team.      These two have not played nice since the divorce started so what now?    Do we move into appeal hell now?  Does she get her office back?  Do they sell the team?  What does Selig have to say?  Stay tune for more of   “As The Dodgers turns”
