I Love Andre (We Love Him)
My friend Erik is hosting my blog again! I love the post! I love Andre!
Take it away Erik!
————————————————————————————————
I was watching a rerun of Inning 5 of Ken Burns’ great documentary, Baseball, and I started wondering where the days went when baseball players would have song written about them? Think about it, that’s not done anymore.
Those are some great songs about some great players. Some include Less Brown’s song “Joltin’ Joe”, and perhaps the best of all, “Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball ” by Buddy Johnson and Count Basie. It reminded me that I wrote (or modified) a song about my favorite player, Andre Ethier. It was penned during the fervor surrounding his home run-hitting prowess early last season. Yeah, I know, he didn’t keep it up, but, G-d willing, I have faith that he’ll get things back on track this season. At which point we’ll all be signing the song I offer. Well, maybe not you, but I’ll be belting it out, and I bet Crzblue will be right there with me. Here it is, sing along, you’ll recognize the tune.

I Love Andre (We Love Him)
Runnin’ down the 3rd base line
Big nasty homer out the right field side
Maggie Ethier looking hot in the Lodge
She is full of pride
Mow down the pitcher, put da Blue on top.
Crank up Vin Scully, baby
Don’t let the hitting stop
We’re gonna cheer him ’til we just can’t cheer him no more
From the Top Deck to the Pavilion
From the Stadium Club to the Dugout Club,
Everybody’s very happy
‘Cause the man is hitting all the time
Looks like another homer’s on the way
I love Andre (We love him)
I love Andre (We love him)
Look at that homer
Look at those doubles
Look at that catch out there, man
He’s down on his knees.
Look at those walk-offs
There ain’t nothin’ like ’em nowhere.
St. Mary’s High School (We love him)
Chandler-Gilbert College (We love him)
Arizona State University (We love him)
Dodgertown (We love him, we love him)
We love him!
We love him!
We love Andre!

So, there! Trust me, I know it doesn’t come close to the genius of the other songs I mentioned, but I hope you recognize the same spirit…the spirit of devotion to a player, and a game.
Thanks again for the opportunity to post Crzblue.

Thank you Erik!
Very clever! I am fond of writing parodies too and always appreciate a good one. Eric should start an MLBlog too! 🙂
Kristen
This is a very simple game…
Kristen,
Erik is very clever indeed! I keept telling him he should.

Ron,

Okay, even I will joyfully join in singing this song! Good job, Erik!

Nice lyrics! I’m always impressed when people can make up new words to a song, as it’s something I can’t really do (or would take me a really long time). Now I’m curious to check out other (recorded) songs about players, ’cause I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Jeff!
Great! The more the merrier!
.
Sue,
I can’t do it either. The fans at the ITD (InsidetheDodgers) blog, do it all the time with such easiness.
Per Tony Jackson, Dodger beat reporter from ESPN Los Angeles,
“Mariach band playing on back fields today, paid for by Andre Ethier and Juan Castro”
Ha, ha…the song/poem is great! Although, now I will be humming that tune all day! ;o)

Jenn,
Haha. I need to start practicing with Erik
Congrats on #24 Emma!
Don’t know if you’ve seen it yet, but I just saw the Dodgers video from the caravan and you are the first fan they show. Very cool! It’s a good video all around and really shows that the Dodgers are a community team.

Kristen,
Thanks. I have not had time to update my blog with work, road trip, home. I will try later on. Funny that you saw that video. A friend from Ohio was the first one that let me know I was in that video. She is a Dodger fan and a Cleveland Indian fan. She comes once a year to see the Dodgers. She was here when the Indians played the Dodgers. I have also run into her at Vero Beach when the Dodgers played Spring Training there.
Emma, thx for letting Erik show his parodying talents on one of my faves!
Erik, you did a great job on that song for Andre! Very well done! I parodied a different song for Andre years ago. I parodied this back in the day when Joe just came to town and when many of us on ITD were clamoring for Joe to play Andre more. If you don’t mind, here is my little ditty to Andre…

Original Song: Styx – Blue Collar Man
JOE’S BLUE COLLAR MAN
Give me a job, give me security
Give me a chance to play
I’m just Everyday ‘Dre that hits home runs
Joe, I just want to play
My mother and father, my wife and my friends
They say “play ‘Dre” everyday
I’ve got the power and I’ve got the will
Joe, I can win you some games
I’ll hit those long shots, impossible to catch
Keeping my eye on the ball
If it takes all that to be just who I am
I’m gonna be Joe’s blue collar man
Make me an offer that I can’t refuse
Make me Everyday ‘Dre, man
This is the last time I’m gonna ride the pine
So like it or not I’ll still hit
Long shots, impossible to catch
Keeping my eye on the ball
If it takes all that to be just who I am
I’m gonna be Joe’s blue collar man
Keeping my mind on the ultimate goal
Building the Dodgers’ young gun dynasty
Paradise – Matty, James, Russ, Billz and Kersh
I close my eyes a-and I’m already there
(Tommy’s kick’n electric guitar solo)
I’ll hit those long shots, impossible to catch
Keeping my eye on the ball
If it takes all that to be just who I am
I’m gonna be Joe’s blue collar maaaaan
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
(You don’t understand) Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
I’ll take those long shots, impossible to catch
Keeping my eye on the ball
If it takes all that to be just who I am
Well, I’ve gotta be a blue collar
Gotta be a blue collar
Gonna be Joe’s blue collar maaaaan
Oh, and I forgot to say that I parodied this while Mr. Russ Martin was still here and many of us still considered him part of the “Young Gun Dynasty” pack…
Bravo Carol!
Great job with the song. I had heard it before but it was perfect to hear it again. Good to read you here!
I too am ready with my scorebook, camera, radio to listen to Vin Scully on Opening Day! 14 days till Opening Day! Woohoo!
