1981 World Series Program.
I was checking the scoresheet from my 1981 World Series program. Fernando Valenzuela pitched that game! it was game three at Dodger Stadium.
I had Jaime Jarrin sign it.
btw, the back of my shirt says Scully” and it has a mike.
The program cost me $3 back then.

The final score was Dodgers 5, Yankees 4. I always note the attendance in my scoresheets. That day It was 56,236. .

Yeah, Dave Stewart is Kemp’s agent. I thought it would be to the Dodgers advantage but there has been some friction between Stewart and the Dodgers management and also between Stewart and the media. Is ashame. I so hope Matt Kemp stays with the Dodgers.

Got to admit, I am starting to see just how much you enjoy and treasure your Dodger Blue history. From the Hilda costume to having this piece of history….they should hire you as a team historian and tour guide.

Ahh Yeah Cliff. I love my Dodger Blue history but I also love all the baseball history including minor league. Last night after “The Tenth Inning”, they had a special on the minor league baseball in Sacramento, CA. I just love all that stuff.
funny that as our season is coming to an end, I was remembering my friend Erik and I dresssed as the Brooklyn Bum and Hilda Chester.
i saw the other day on MLBTV Vin was voted the number 1 all time announcer, not sure if it was an old show or not though… and if I had been here in ’81 I would have fit right in stasche and all.
I also hear Matt Kemp is very happy with the new manager selection, was there friction with him and Torre?

Vin is in a league of his own when it comes to broadcasting. His fellow broacasters agree. And yes, you would have fit right in with your stasche.
In regards with Kemp, I wish the La Times writers would leave him alone.
I am sorry that this was a disappointing season for you, but I am so envious of your new manager. I’ve always harbored hopes that he’d return to New York to manage. You are getting a first class guy who’ll be a terrific manager. Donnie Baseball will make sure that he surrounds himself with a quality coaching staff, and I would not be fearful that he’s never managed at the major leagues. I know that I’ll be quietly rooting for the Dodgers next year (when I am not watching my team, of course).

Damn, I looked at that Yankee yearbook and saw Aurelio Rodriguez listed. And to think, I remember him playing for the Senators back in the ’60s…before he was traded for (essentially) Denny McLain.
Which reminds me, next year also marks 40 years from when the Senators were STOLEN from us by that rat b*a*s*t*a*r*d Bob Short (and hijacked to Texas).
And I agree with Scott–Don Mattingly just MIGHT make a decent manager. (Of course, you might recall I wanted him here to run the Nats…darn it, THAT didn’t happen!! LMAO)

Thanks Scott! I gotten enough time to get over the bad season and now that there are only three regular games left, I don’t want to miss them. Dodger Stadium is my second home and I will miss it in the offseason. OK, so you give me hope that Mattingly will be OK. Ethier way I always root for my boys in Dodger Blue. Good luck!

Wow Gary. you saw Aurelio Rodriguez play in the 60’s with the Senators? Wow! Is amazing that next year will be 40 years since the Senators …left. Well at least Scott and you agree. The numbers were and are overwhelming against Mattingly. i want to give him the benefit of the doubt. He will be managing in the Fall League.
I love it! Great fun when you bring out the old stuff! Love looking at those old unis. How the times have changed… not gonna see Marlboro as a major sponsor of anything in the big leagues nowadays.

I hdad to look where the 1981 All-Star game was played. It was Cleveland Stadium. Fernando started that All-Star but Vida Blue got the win and Bruce Sutter the win. Rollie Fingers got the loss. That was fun looking at that

Yes, it sure is magical. It took me back to a magical team that not too many experts thought they could win it all. I am going to try to dig up more of my old programs.
That was perhaps the year we Losangelinos truly enjoyed our Dodgers (though others will argue otherwise). If it weren’t for Fernandomania, we wouldn’t have thought to see a championship in our backyard. The strike, split division champions, that All-Star game in Cleveland…what a year that was!
The NLCS against Montreal was beyond memorable. Rick Monday got the Dodgers into the Series that afternoon in Stade Olympique. Beating the Yankees was sweet, nonetheless. Still – one person stood above all that year: Fernando.
I wished I kept my World Series program form that season…

That homerun by Monday on a Monday was ….like you said beyond memorable. I remember I kept jumping up and down! After watching the replay, I felt just a tad bad for the Expos.
We might have crosses our paths that year of Fernandomania at Dodger Stadium.
That book is in nice shape…love seeing those. Brings back memories of the days when graphics sucked…lol
